  1. 6. Effects of palatable diets on appetite regulation, appetite peptides and neurogenesis

    Author : Andreas Lindqvist; Aptitkontroll; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sekretion; Endokrinologi; diabetologi; Appetite regulation; Ghrelin; Obesity; Leptin; Endocrinology; diabetology; secreting systems;

    Abstract : Obesity is increasing throughout the world at an epidemic rate, partly due to increased consumption of diets rich in fat and/or sugar. Ghrelin and leptin are hormones, originating from the periphery, involved in the regulation of food intake and of maintaining energy homeostasis. READ MORE

  2. 7. Energy metabolism as a target for new treatment strategies in Huntington’s disease

    Author : Marie Sjögren; Biomarkörer vid hjärnsjukdomar; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Huntington´s disease; Energy metabolic alteration; Weight loss; Skeletal muscle; Adipose tissue; R6 2; Ghrelin; Liraglutide;

    Abstract : Huntington´s disease (HD) is a fatal inherited neurodegenerative disorder caused by a CAG triplet repeat expansion in the huntingtin (HTT) gene and characterized by cognitive and motoric dysfunctions as well as psychiatric problems. Accumulating evidence, however, suggests altered energy metabolism and a hyper-catabolic state as key features of HD pathology. READ MORE

  3. 8. Nitric Oxide Synthase in Pancreatic Islets During Trauma and Parenteral Feeding

    Author : Saleem Qader; Islet cell physiology; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Gastroenterologi; Gastro-enterology; Pancreatitis; Ghrelin; TPN; cNOS; iNOS; PACAP; VIP; cAMP; Pancreatic islets; Insulin secretion;

    Abstract : The influence of trauma (acute pancreatitis) or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) on pancreatic islet hormone secretion in relation to islet expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) was investigated. Acute pancreatitis resulted in an impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) which was found to be parallelled by a marked expression of iNOS and an exaggerated NO production in the pancreatic islets. 4. 9. Reward-related genes and alcohol dependence

    Author : Sara Landgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alcohol; dependence; reward; smoking; body weight; gene; polymorphism; nAChR; ghrelin; GHS-R1A;

    Abstract : Introduction: The rewarding properties of alcohol are mediated by the brain reward systems, specifically by the cholinergic-dopaminergic reward link, involving both nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) as well as the ghrelin signalling system. The susceptibility for developing alcohol dependence is influenced by genetic factors. READ MORE

  5. 10. Influence of Islet-derived Factors in Islet Microcirculation and Endocrine Function

    Author : Carl Johan Drott; Per-Ola Carlsson; Leif Jansson; Albert Salehi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes mellitus; pancreas; blood flow; islet vascularity; islet-derived; TSP-1; ghrelin; CART; irisin; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is a disorder with complex pathology and is frequently associated with vascular complications. In the islet micro milieu locally generated factors may affect both the physiology and the morphology of the tissue. READ MORE
