  1. 1. Glacial dynamics and till genesis in hilly terrain : A study in the Tallträsk area, central-northern Sweden

    Author : Hans Ivarsson; Mats Jansson; Per Möller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; till analyses; glacial stratigraphy; subglacial deposition; deglaciation; hilly terrain; northern Sweden; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This study deals with the influence of topography on glacial dynamics and the genesis of till in an area of moder-ate bedrock relief. An area 25 km west of Lycksele, northern Sweden, was investigated using geomorphological and sedimentological methods. READ MORE

  2. 2. Investigation of Suffusion in Glacial Till Dam Cores : Testing methods and critical hydraulic gradients

    Author : Ingrid Silva; Jan Laue; Peter Viklander; Thomas Pabst; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; internal erosion; suffusion; glacial till; dam cores; dams; experimental investigation; hydraulic gradient; testing methods; cohesionless soils; granular soils; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Suffusion is an internal erosion mechanism that occurs in embankment dams when fine grained particles in the dam core are washed out by seepage. Initiation of internal erosion depends mainly on three major factors: grain size distribution of the soil, stress conditions and hydraulic gradient; whilst its continuation depends on the properties of the filter. 3. 3. Suffusion of Glacial Till Dam Cores : An Experimental Investigation

    Author : Ingrid Silva; Jan Laue; Peter Viklander; Cristina Jommi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Suffusion, also called internal instability, is an internal erosion mechanism that occurs in embankment dams when fine-grained particles are washed out of the core soil matrix by seepage. Initiation of internal erosion depends mainly on three major factors: grain size distribution of the soil, stress conditions and hydraulic load; whilst its continuation depends of the filter properties. 4. 4. Constraining the Southern Part of the Greenland Ice Sheet since the Last Glacial Maximum from Relative Sea-Level Changes, Cosmogenic Dates and Glacial-Isostatic Adjustment Models

    Author : Charlotte Sparrenbom; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; physical oceanography; geokemi; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi; Geophysics; meteorology; mineralogi; geochemistry; mineralogy; Petrology; Geologi; fysisk geografi; physical geography; Geology; neo-glacial; in-situ cosmigenic nuclide; XRF-scanning; glacial-isostatic adjustment models; glacial history; sea-level changes; Greenland; isolation basins; fysisk oceanografi; Petrologi; meteorologi; Geofysik;

    Abstract : New results are presented from the investigation of relative sea-level changes in the Nanortalik and Qaqortoq-Narsarsuaq areas in SW Greenland from c. 11 000 cal. years BP to the present. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mixed-Grained Till in Pavement Structures; A Field and Laboratory Study

    Author : Helene Kennedy; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; permanent deformation behaviour; triaxial test; pavement; till;

    Abstract : The road network in Sweden has historically been constructed using rock fill and natural gravel. More than 75 per cent of the land surface of Sweden is covered by glacial till and greater utilization of site-won material will not only reduce transportation costs but will also promote better sustainability of natural assets.
