  1. 16. Resonator sensor technique for medical use : an intraocular pressure measurement system

    Author : Anders Eklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sensor; Vibration; Hardness; Prostate; intraocular pressure; resonator; eye; applanation; glaucoma;

    Abstract : In the work of this doctoral dissertation a new resonator sensor technique, first presented in 1989, has been further developed and evaluated with focus on technical characteristics and applications within the medical field. In a first part a catheter-type tactile sensor using the resonator sensor technique was evaluated in a silicone model and applied to human prostate in vitro. READ MORE

  2. 17. Diagnosing and monitoring open-angle glaucoma. Pupillometry and other novel techniques

    Author : Lada Kalaboukhova; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : open-angle glaucoma; relative afferent pupillary defect; pupillometer; visual field; Frequency Doubling Technology Perimetry; High-pass Resolution Perimetry; Heidelberg Retina Tomography;

    Abstract : Aim:To investigate the ability of a custom-built pupillometer and other novel diagnostic instruments to detect and monitor optic nerve damage in glaucoma.Methods:In the first two studies we investigated pupillary reactions to light in patients with glaucoma and in healthy persons using a custom-built pupillometer. 3. 18. Machine Learning Algorithms for Improved Glaucoma Diagnosis

    Author : Dimitrios Bizios; Oftalmologi (Malmö); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Primary open angle glaucoma, one of the leading causes of blindness in the world, constitutes a slow progressing condition characterized by damage to the optic nerve and retinal nerve fibre layer, and results in visual field defects afflicting the visual function. Highly specific and sensitive diagnostic tests able to detect the clinically significant glaucomatous changes in the structure of the nerve fiber layer and visual field are therefore required for the early detection and management of this disease. 4. 19. Aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma

    Author : Björn Friström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Glaucoma is one of the most common causes of blindness in the world, and it is important that screening tests as well as treatment possibilities are improved continuously. A reliable but more rapid screening test than those already available would be of great interest. In addition, new and more effective treatment options would be most valuable. READ MORE

  5. 20. Visual Impairment and Vision-Related Quality of Life in Glaucoma

    Author : Dorothea Peters; Oftalmologi (Malmö); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the impact of glaucoma on the patients’ vision from both a measurement based and a functionally based perspective. The risk of visual disability is probably the most important question for a newly diagnosed glaucoma patient and maintaining vision-related quality of life (VRQOL) has become the ultimate goal of glaucoma treatment.
