  1. 6. Molecular Genetic Studies of Genes Predisposing for Glaucoma

    Author : Mattias Jansson; Claes Wadelius; Annika Lindblom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; glaucoma; MYOC; OCLM; GSTM1; OPTN; mutation analysis; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of visual impairment in the world. In glaucoma, the patient’s peripheral vision is lost due to progressive and irreversible deterioration of the retinal ganglion cells and atrophy of the optic nerve. READ MORE

  2. 7. Glaucoma Characteristics and Risk Factors - Results from Malmö Eye Survey

    Author : Kirsti Grødum; Oftalmologi (Malmö); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vascular disease; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi; myopia; optic disc hemorrhages; mortality; refraction; glaucoma; population screening;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on data from a large glaucoma screening, comprising 32, 918 elderly citizens of Malmö and data from retrospective analysis of glaucoma patients’ charts from the Eye Department of Malmö University Hospital. The definition of glaucoma was based on reproducible visual field defects and/or glaucomatous optic nerve head damage in both groups. READ MORE

  3. 8. Long-term follow-up of pseudoexfoliation, intraocular pressure and glaucoma : epidemiological studies in northern Sweden

    Author : Siv Åström; Christina Lindén; Hans Stenlund; Bertil Lindblom; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pseudoexfoliation; glaucoma; intraocular pressure; age cohort; screening; long-term follow-up;

    Abstract : Purpose An age-cohort was studied with long-term follow-up. The population was born in 1915, living in the municipality of Skellefteå in 1981. The purpose was to investigate the prevalence and incidence of pseudoexfoliation (PEX), its influence on intraocular pressure (IOP) and development of open-angle glaucoma (OAG). READ MORE

  4. 9. Morphometry of the Optic Nerve Head as a Diagnostic Tool for Glaucoma

    Author : Camilla Sandberg Melin; Per Söderberg; Boel Bengtsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; optic nerve head; ONH; nerve fibers; glaucoma; optical coherence tomography; OCT; Pigment epithelium central limit-inner limit of the retina minimal distance; PIMD; PIMD-2π; Segmental PIMD-2π; confocal scanning laser tomography; HRT; NRA; variation; variability; variance; loss rate; follow-up.;

    Abstract : Glaucoma is a chronic optic nerve head (ONH) disease. Gradual retinal ganglion cell and nerve fiber loss lead to morphological ONH change and visual field defects. Initial loss is often focal. Rate of progression and life expectancy guide treatment. READ MORE

  5. 10. Electrophysiology, Optical Coherence Tomography and Molecular Genetic Analysis in Patients with Glaucoma and/or Best Vitelliform Macular Dystrophy as Part of Clinical Care

    Author : Elisabeth Wittström; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glaucoma; BVMD; BEST1; full-field ERG; mfERG; OCT;

    Abstract : Glaucoma is a common ophthalmic disease with multifactorial aetiology. There is growing evidence that glaucoma is a disease of the entire retina and not only the inner retina. READ MORE
