  1. 1. Malignant glioma experimental studies with an estrogen-linked cytostatic

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Eva von Schoultz; Umeå universitet.; [1990]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; malignant glioma; meningioma; glioma cells; sex steroids; estramustine; nor-nitrogen mustard; estramustine- binding protein; DNA damage; cell membrane;

    Abstract : Malignant gliomas are the most common primary brain tumors in adults. Patients with these highly malignant tumors have an extremely poor prognosis. The situation with a highly proliferative tumor in a non-proliferating tissue should favor cytostatic treatment but so far the role of conventional chemotherapy has been adjunctive. READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental therapies of malignant glioma with emphasis on angiogenesis inhibition

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Maria Sandström; Umeå universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glioma; angiogenesis; VEGF; tyrosinekinaseinhibitor; ZD6474; plasminogenactivator; tPA; uPA; proteomics; MEDICINE Surgery Oncology; MEDICIN Kirurgi Onkologi;

    Abstract : Malignant glioma consists of a group of diseases where the localisation and the nature of the disease makes treatment an extreme challenge. Two important biological features of malignant glioma cells are their infiltrative growth and their ability to induce angiogenesis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cellular Origin and Development of Glioma

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Nanna Lindberg; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioma; brain tumor; PDGF; RCAS TV-A; cell of origin; glial cell; oligodendrocyte progenitor cell; DNA repair; homology-directed repair; RAD51; angiogenesis; histidine-rich glycoprotein; MEDICINE Morphology; cell biology; pathology; MEDICIN Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi; Molecular Medicine; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ;

    Abstract : Gliomas are the most common primary tumors of the central nervous system believed to arise from glial cells. Invasive growth and inherent propensity for malignant progression make gliomas incurable despite extensive treatment. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interplay Between Cell of Origin and Oncogenic Activation in Glioma

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Yiwen Jiang; Uppsala universitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioma; PDGF; cell of origin; Sox5; glioma initiating cells; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Glioma is the most frequent primary tumor of the central nervous system. By using the RCAS/tv-a mouse glioma model, we have studied mechanisms controlling glioma development and the effect of cell of origin on these processes.SOX5 was identified as a brain tumor locus in a retroviral insertional mutagenesis screen of PDGF-B induced mouse gliomas. 5. 5. Molecular and Cellular Complexity of Glioma Highlights on the Double-Edged-Sword of Infiltration Versus Proliferation and the Involvement of T Cells

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Demet Çağlayan; Uppsala universitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glioma; Sox2; Sox21; Snail; Bone morphogenetic protein; Sleeping Beauty; Gliomatosis Cerebri; T lymphocytes; T regulatory lymphocytes; Oncology; Onkologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most common and malignant brain tumor, is characterized by high molecular and cellular heterogeneity within and among tumors. Parameters such as invasive growth, infiltration of immune cells and endothelial proliferation contribute in a systemic manner to maintain the malignancy. READ MORE
