  1. 1. In Quest of the Globally Good Teacher : Exploring the need, the possibilities, and the main elements of a globally relevant core curriculum for teacher education

    Author : Kamran Namdar; Margareta Sandström; Jonas Stier; Jagdish Gundara; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; teacher education; teacher role; core curriculum; Reconstructionism; globalization; transformative agency; Didactics; didaktik;

    Abstract : This primarily theoretical-philosophical study is aimed at identifying the main principles according to which a globally relevant core curriculum for teacher education could be devised at a critical juncture in human history. In order to do that, a Weberian ideal type of the globally good teacher is outlined. READ MORE

  2. 2. Globally-Ratiochronous, Locally-Synchronous Systems

    Author : Jean-Michel Chabloz; Ahmed Hemani; Alexandre Yakovlev; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : It is well recognized in the literature that the fully-synchronous design style, once the best choice due especially to the simplicity of its design flow, is not suitable for present-days systems, which contain many more gates compared to their predecessors, and has to be superseded to meet the new needs of the industry. The alternative solution that has enjoyed more success in industry and the literature consists in breaking down a system into several fully-synchronous modules clocked with independent clocks. 3. 3. Inviting Community into the Development of Globally Sustainable Food Systems

    Author : Liesel Carlsson; Göran Broman; Edith Callaghan; Mark Dooris; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sustainable food systems; strategic sustainable development; sustainable community development; nutrition; dietetics;

    Abstract : Food systems and human diets contribute to unsustainable socioecological conditions, which in turn negatively affect human health. These driver-impact relationships span multiple scales, prompting international governance bodies, nations, and communities alike to grapple with solutions for a better food future. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regularity and boundary behavior of solutions to complex Monge–Ampère equations

    Author : Björn Ivarsson; Zbigniew Blocki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Complex Monge--Ampère operator; interior regularity; plurisubharmonic function; blow-up rate of solutions; bounded plurisubharmonic exhaustion function; globally Lipschitz; strongly pseudoconvex domain; hyperconvex domain; Bergman kernel; MATEMATIK; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : In the theory of holomorphic functions of one complex variable it is often useful to study subharmonic functions. The subharmonic can be described using the Laplace operator. When one studies holomorphic functions of several complex variables one should study the plurisubharmonic functions instead. READ MORE

  5. 5. Impacts and drivers of insect herbivory on element cycling in forests globally

    Author : Bernice Hwang; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biogeochemical cycling; folivory; insect cadavers; insect frass; insect herbivory; litter decomposition; nutrient cycling; carbon; nitrogen; phosphorus; silicon; silica;

    Abstract : The effects of insect herbivores on forest functioning are not well understood even though they can have important impacts on ecosystem processes by intercepting foliage before resorption and depositing nutrient-rich materials to the soil. In this thesis, I investigated the impact and drivers of insect folivores on carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and silica (Si) cycling in broadleaf forests, and how this varies with major climate variables.
