  1. 1. Spatial variations of the urban climate and its influence on thermal comfort and behaviour

    Author : Fredrik Lindberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sky view factor; air temperature; surface temperature; GIS; raster modelling; mean radiant temperature; globe temperature; the SOLWIEG-model; human behaviour; outdoor activity;

    Abstract : The increased number of people living in urban areas emphasises the need for an improved understanding of how the urban climate affects human activity and behaviour. The spatial and temporal variation of climate within cities is an important factor in people’s health and well-being. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tracing pathways in the ocean circulation : A temperature and salinity perspective

    Author : Sara Berglund; Kristofer Döös; Jonas Nycander; Göran Broström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lagrangian trajectories; Climate modelling; Atlantic Ocean; Southern Ocean; Ocean circulation; heat; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : The ocean circulation plays an essential role in our climate system. It redistributes heat, salt, carbon and other tracers across the globe, making the climate of Earth more moderate. This thesis targets density differences that are driving the ocean circulation. These differences are caused by changes in temperature and salinity. READ MORE

  3. 3. The initial phase of the sodium bisulfite pulping of softwood dissolving pulp

    Author : Raghu Deshpande; Ulf Germgård; Martin Ragnar; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Activation energy; bisulfite pulping; cellulose; delignification; extractives; glucomannan; hemicelluloses; lignin; pine; spruce; thiosulfate; total SO2; xylan; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The sulfite pulping process is today practised in only a small number of pulp mills around the globe and the number of sulfite mills that use sodium as the base (cation) is less than five. However, due to the increasing interest in the wood based biorefinery concept, the benefits of sulfite pulping and especially the sodium based variety, has recently gained a lot of interest. 4. 4. The initial phase of sodium sulfite pulping of softwood : A comparison of different pulping options

    Author : Raghu Deshpande; Ulf Germgård; Pedro Fardim; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Activation energy; acid sulfite pulping; bisulfite pulping; cellulose; delignification; dissolving pulp; extractives; glucomannan; hemicelluloses; lignin; lignin condensation; lignin carbohydrate complexes; pine; spruce; thiosulfate; total SO2; xylan; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Single stage and two-stage sodium sulfite cooking were carried out on either spruce, pine or pure pine heartwood chips to investigate the influence of several process parameters on the initial phase of such a cook down to about 60 % pulp yield. The cooking experiments were carried out in the laboratory with either a lab-prepared or a mill-prepared cooking acid and the temperature and time were varied. READ MORE

  5. 5. On the recent Arctic Warming

    Author : Rune Grand Graversen; Michael Tjernström; Erland Källén; John Walsh; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; atmospheric energy transport; Meteorology; Meteorologi; atmosfärvetenskap; Atmospheric Sciences;

    Abstract : The Arctic region attracts considerable scientific interest in these years. Some of the Earth's most pronounced signs of the recent climate change are found here. The summer sea-ice cover is shrinking at an alarming rate. At the same time the region warms faster than the rest of the globe. READ MORE
