  1. 1. Properties of the glomerular endothelial cell surface layer in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Vincent Fridén; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glomerular filtration; Glomerular endothelial cell surface layer; Proteinuria; Proteoglycans; glycocalyx; glycosaminoglycans; glomerular endothelial cells; permselectivity and glomerular endothelial cell coat;

    Abstract : A healthy kidney produces final urine that is practically devoid of proteins and other physiologically important solutes. Tremendous amounts of fluid are filtered every day through the glomerular filtration barrier which is the actual sieving site in the kidney. READ MORE

  2. 2. Endogenous proteins as markers of glomerular function and dysfunction

    University dissertation from Department of Nephrology, Lund University

    Author : Jan Tencer; [1997]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glomerular filter; amyloidosis; glomerulonephritis; glomerular disease; proteins; proteinuria; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : Plasma and urine concentrations of endogenous proteins are frequently used in the diagnosis of kidney diseases and in studies of glomerular filter function. The main issues addressed in these studies were: storage of urine samples for subsequent protein analysis, use of protein concentrations in urine and in plasma in health and as markers of glomerular diseases, and the application of renal plasma-to-urine clearance of endogenous proteins in estimating the size-selectivity properties of the glomerular capillary wall. 3. 3. Dynamics of the glomerular filtration barrier - Physiological and pathophysiological aspects

    University dissertation from Department of Nephrology, Lund University

    Author : Josefin Axelsson; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glomerular filtration barrier; Glomerular permeability; Microalbuminuria; Albumin; Ficoll; Sieving Coefficient; Rats;

    Abstract : The dynamic properties of the glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) are of fundamental importance for the understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of microalbuminuria and proteinuric diseases. In the studies of this doctoral thesis the properties of the rat glomerular filtration barrier were investigated under resting conditions and following a number of challenges using highly sensitive gel filtration chromatography (HPSEC) detection of FITC-Ficoll in serum and urine. 4. 4. Functional and molecular aspects of the glomerular barrier

    University dissertation from Department of Nephrology, Lund University

    Author : Anna Björnson Granqvist; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glomerular endothelium; glycocalyx; podocyte; proteoglycan; glycosaminoglycans; nephrotic syndrome;

    Abstract : The kidneys are crucial for maintaining a normal salt-water balance in the body, which is a prerequisite for life. They do that by filtering 180 liters of plasma per day across the highly permselective glomerular barrier and reabsorbing 99 % of the filtrate. READ MORE

  5. 5. Renal dysfunction in orthopaedic surgery - with special reference to drug effects in the elderly

    University dissertation from Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care

    Author : Görel Nergelius; [1997]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; protein HC; IgG; albumin; pharmacokinetics; diclofenac; clearance; elderly; penicillin; isoxazolyl; tubular; glomerular; arthroplasty; exercise; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Abstract : Total hip replacement (THR) is a common procedure, generally performed in elderly persons. Previous studies indicated that the use of isoxazolyl penicillins could induce a transient post-operative renal dysfunction in these patients. READ MORE
