  1. 6. Glomerular filtration rate in adults : a single sample plasma clearance method based on the mean sojurn time

    Author : Margareta Gref; Kjell Karp; Börje Ljungberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Clinical Physiology; klinisk fysiologi;

    Abstract : Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is a key parameter in evaluating kidney function. After a bolus injection of an exogenous GFR marker in plasma an accurate determination of GFR can be made by measuring the marker concentration in plasma during the excretion. READ MORE

  2. 7. A Study of Renal Function in Children with Cancer

    Author : Lars Hjorth; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Pediatri; nefrologi; Urologi; nephrology; Urology; children; sequelae; pediatric oncology; chemotherapy; renal toxicity; malignancy; hyperfiltration; iohexol clearance; glomerular filtration rate; kidney disease; Glomerular proteinuria; tubular proteinuria;

    Abstract : Evaluation of long-term side effects of treatment is important due to the growing number of childhood cancer survivors. How kidney function is affected over time needs to be clarified. READ MORE

  3. 8. Analysis of Transvascular Transport Phenomena in the glomerular and peritoneal microcirculation

    Author : CARL ÖBERG; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Peritoneal dialysis; glomerular filtration barrier; pore model; automated peritoneal dialysis APD ; three-pore model;

    Abstract : The current work is devoted entirely to the study of passive transport phenomena, or more specifically, the more simple diffusion, electric migration and filtration of solute matter and water over glomerular and peritoneal capillary walls. The driving forces behind such trans-capillary transport phenomena have long been assumed to be simple gradients of concentration, hydrostatic pressure and electric potential. READ MORE

  4. 9. Physiological and morphological aspects of the glomerular barrier in health and disease. Results based on experimental studies in the rat

    Author : Clara Hjalmarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : glomerular permeability; isolated perfused kidney; charge; endothelial surface layer; glycocalyx; electron microscopy; orosomucoid; nephrotic syndrome; proteinuria;

    Abstract : Tremendous amounts of fluid are filtered every day through the kidneys. The anastomosing capillary loops surrounded by Bowman s capsule, forming the glomerulus, function in accordance with the interplay between the hydrostatic and the colloid osmotic pressure. The result of the action of these mechanisms is the production of primary urine. READ MORE

  5. 10. Aspects of the glomerular barrier in healthy and diabetic kidneys

    Author : Marie Jeansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : glomerular size and charge selectivity; isolated perfused kidney; electron microscopy; glycocalyx; diabetic nephropathy; NOD mice;

    Abstract : Each day 180 liters of plasma is filtered in the kidneys. Under normal conditions, the glomerular barrier restricts the passage of macromolecules such as albumin while it is highly permeable to water and small solutes. Proteinuria is a hallmark of renal disease and reflects impairment of the glomerular barrier. READ MORE
