  1. 16. Development of molecular biology tools for the wine and beer yeast Dekkera bruxellensis

    Author : Anna Schifferdecker; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; non-conventional yeasts; Dekkera bruxellensis; genetic tools; chromosomes variability; glucose fermentation; genotype-phenotype paradigm; baking yeasts;

    Abstract : The non-conventional wine and beer yeast Dekkera bruxellensis is of great interest for the food industry and academic research. This Crabtree-positive yeast is a good ethanol producer and can compete the baker´s yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, in ethanol and pH tolerance and could be an even better organism for the biofuel production from alternative carbon sources. 2. 17. Fungal Redox Enzymes Involved in the Oxidation of Organic Pollutants

    Author : Enrique Terrazas; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; Biokemisk teknik; Organic pollutants.; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; Biochemical technology; Laccase; Lignin peroxidase; Manganese peroxidase; Fusarium sp. strain BOL35; Biodegradation; Bjerkandera sp. strain BOL13; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : This work describes the degradation of nonylphenol, toxaphene, phenanthrene, benzo[a]pyrene and dyes using fungi and their redox enzymes. Two fungi, Bjerkandera sp. strain BOL13 and Fusarium sp. strain BOL35 were isolated from different geographic area in Bolivia. READ MORE

  3. 18. Novel pathways regulating glucose and lipid metabolism in human skeletal muscle

    Author : Reginald L Austin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The utilization of glucose and lipids as energy substrates in skeletal muscle is strictly regulated. As skeletal muscle is the body s chief consumer of glucose and lipids, it plays a critical role in the maintenance of whole-body homeostasis. READ MORE

  4. 19. Molecular dissection of pathways regulating glucose and lipid metabolism using siRNA

    Author : Anna Rune; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Type 2 diabetes is a complex chronic disease that is associated with skeletal muscle insulin resistance. The aim of this thesis is to investigate pathways regulating glucose and lipid metabolism in human skeletal muscle. Whole body metabolism differs between men and women. READ MORE

  5. 20. Substrate oxidation and plasma elimination of a long-chain triglyceride emulsion

    Author : Wiveca Åberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Lipid emulsions based on long-chain triglycerides (LCTs) are frequently used during total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and are usually administrated together with glucose. The metabolism of fat is determined by the underlying condition such as trauma, infection, malnutrition or age and also by substrate interaction when different nutrients are administrated simultaneously.
