1. Creating Ultrafast Biosensors for Neuroscience
Abstract : Neuronal communication is the basis for all our brain function and relies on regulated exocytosis, a cell function that involves release of quantal amounts of neurotransmitters into the gap space between interconnected neurons to serve as chemical signals. To study exocytosis, which is a fast process that occurs on the timescale of sub-milliseconds to milliseconds, a toolbox of analytical methods has been developed where the electrochemical based techniques offer quantitative and sufficient high temporal recording speed. 2. Measurement of trace components in aqueous solutions with near and mid infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy
Abstract : This thesis treats various aspects of the measurement of trace components in aqueous solutions with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. This technique has several applications from such diverse fields as dairy industry and biomedical optics. READ MORE

3. Volume kinetics of glucose solutions given by intravenous infusion
Abstract : Fluid therapy is often cumbersome to plan since the distribution and the elimination of the administered solution are difficult to analyze in the clinical setting. The knowledge of the adequate rate and dose for each individual patient and under various physiological conditions would be very attractive to obtain in order to avoid fluid overload and hyperglycemia. 4. Integrated microsystems for continuous glucose monitoring, interstitial fluid sampling and digital microfluidics
Abstract : Interdisciplinary research between medicine and microsystem engineering creates new possibilities to improve the quality of life of patients or to further enhance the performance of already existing devices. In particular, microsystems show great potential for the realization of biosensors and sampling devices to monitor bioanalytes with minimal patient discomfort. READ MORE

5. Diabetes Mellitus Glucose Prediction by Linear and Bayesian Ensemble Modeling
Abstract : Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease of impaired blood glucose control due to degraded or absent bodily-specific insulin production, or utilization. To the affected, this in many cases implies relying on insulin injections and blood glucose measurements, in order to keep the blood glucose level within acceptable limits. READ MORE
