  1. 1. Polyelectrolytes and Polycomplexes in Biotechnology

    Author : Maria Dainiak; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; expanded bed adsorption.; affinity precipitation; Fab fragments; monoclonal antibodies; glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase; misfolded protein; chaperone; poly N-ethyl-4-vinylpyridinium bromide ; poly methacrylic acid ; poly acrylic acid ; Key words: polyelectrolyte; polyelectrolyte complexes; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : Polyelectrolytes and polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs) are characterized by many useful properties that endow them with high potential in different areas of biotechnology. This thesis describes the development and analyses of some new systems and methods utilizing poly(acrylic acid) (PAA), poly(methacrylic acid) (PMA), poly (N-ethyl-4-vinylpyridinium bromide) (PEVP) and PMA-PEVP complexes. 2. 2. Recognition and Separation of Hemoglobin Variants via Molecularly Imprinted Polymers

    Author : Ka Zhang; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hemoglobin; molecularly imprinted polymers; haptoglobin; protein purification; chromatography glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase; Pickering emulsion;

    Abstract : Hemoglobin (Hb) is the predominant protein in red blood cells with allosteric regulation mechanisms for delivering oxygen between the lungs and tissues. After the 1980s, concentrated research on modified Hb emerged because of the necessity for the development of a blood substitute (oxygen carrier). READ MORE

  3. 3. Cell-Specific Ca2+ Response in Pancreatic ß-cells

    Author : Natalia Gustavsson; Per Lindström; Peter Bergsten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heterogeneity; individual ß-cells; islets of Langerhans; cytoplasmic calcium; repetitive glucose stimulation; lag-time; cell-specific; glyceraldehyde; ketoisocaproic acid; tolbutamide; mitochondrial metabolism; Histology; Histologi;

    Abstract : Pancreatic ß-cells are heterogeneous in their secretory responsiveness, glucose sensitivity and metabolic rate. A diminished and delayed first-phase insulin release is an early sign of failing ß-cells in diabetes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanism of Metabolite transfer between Enzymes in Glycolysis and Connected Pathways

    Author : Wilma Martinez Arias; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Channelling; Free-diffusion; Glycolytic pathway; Dehydrogenases; Enzyme kinetics; Biochemistry; Metabolite transfer mechanism.; Biokemi; Metabolism;

    Abstract : The metabolite produced by one enzyme in a metabolic pathway can be transferred to the next enzyme in the pathway by free diffusion via solution or by channelling in an enzyme-enzyme complex without prior release of the metabolite to solution. While metabolite channelling is known to occur in systems where stable multienzyme complexes form, conflicting views have been expressed as to its existence in pathways involving "soluble" enzymes. 5. 5. Functional studies of the TDH and GPD gene-products in the glycolytic flux and glycerol metabolism of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Hadi Valadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Growth rate; GPD; Sacchromyces cerevisiae; Glyceol; NADH; Anaerobiosis; TDH; Redox; Glycolysis;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the physiology and control of the glycolysis and glycerol metabolism in the yeast Sacchromyces cerevisiae. The study is based on the relation ship between the first two reactions around the branch-point of the upper and lower part of glycolysis and the glycerol pathway. READ MORE
