  1. 16. Assembling and Unraveling Carbohydrates Structures Conformational analysis of synthesized branched oligosaccharides

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Organic Chemistry, Stockholm University

    Author : Thibault Angles d'Ortoli; Stockholms universitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Convergent carbohydrate synthesis; Super-armed donors; Glycosylation; Conformational analysis; NMR; Chemical shift prediction; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Advances in the elaboration of vaccines and enzyme inhibitors rely on acquiring more knowledge about protein-carbohydrate binding events. Furthermore, the relationships between biological function and the three-dimensional properties of large glycans can be studied by focusing on the structural components they contained, namely, by scaling down the system under analysis. 2. 17. Studies of Eosinophil Cationic Protein (ECP) in vivo and in vitro Impact of Genetic and Posttranslational Modifications

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Jenny Eriksson; Uppsala universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : Biomedicine; Eosinophil granulocyte; granular protein; ECP; gene polymorphism; cytotoxicity; SELDI-TOF MS; glycosylation; molecular and functional heterogeneity; fibrosis; Biomedicin;

    Abstract : Eosinophil granulocytes are tissue dwelling leukocytes that are implicated in host defence, particularly against helminthic parasites; they also participate in most inflammatory disorders. Although eosinophils have important roles in host defence mechanisms, their actions can also be harmful to the host as in the allergic inflammation where lung epithelium is destructed due to the release of toxic granule proteins. 3. 18. Immune recognition and early virus-cell interactions. Glycobiological aspects on HIV-1 gp120

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Gregers J. Gram; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 HIV-1 ; glycoprotein; gp120; glycosylation.;

    Abstract : Human immunodeficiency virus types 1 and 2 (HIV-1 and HIV-2) are the etiological agents of AIDS in humans. The viral envelope glycoproteins gp120 and gp41 mediate the early virus-cell interaction of HIV with the target cells. READ MORE

  4. 19. Effects of galectins and antibodies in HIV infection; Novel Assays

    University dissertation from Microbiology, Immunology and Glycobiology, MIG, Lund University

    Author : Enas Sheik-Khalil; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIV-1; galectin-1; galectin-8; neutralizing antibodies; cell-cell fusion; Microscale anisotropy assay; virus binding assay; glycosylation; gp120; Automated plaque reduction assay; CellProfiler; NeutNet;

    Abstract : The high variability of the HIV envelope glycoproteins (Env), and their heavy glycan coating, contributes to the limited host immune control. Still, broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) are found in some chronically infected HIV-infected individuals, which has spurred the research on antibody-based vaccines. READ MORE

  5. 20. Studies towards ß-turn mimetics, synthesis of kedarosamine from threonine, and synthesis of glycopeptides from mucins and gp120

    University dissertation from Organic Chemistry, Lund University

    Author : Tatjana Vuljanic; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [1998]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tn antigen; glycopeptides; glycosylation; diastereselective reduction; kedarosamine; kedarcidin chromophore; amino acids; peptide T; ß-turn mimetic; Organisk kemi; gp120; Organic chemistry;

    Abstract : The secondary structure of proteins is crucial for proper function of the protein in biological systems. Peptide T, an octapeptide from the envelope glycoprotein gp120 of the HIV virus, has previously been shown to be responsible for binding to the CD4 receptor on T helper/inducer lymphocytes. READ MORE
