6. Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 1 in Platelets - Studies of Synthesis, Activity, and Glycosylation Patterns
Abstract : Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) is the main physiological inhibitor of tissue-type plasminogen activator. Thus PAI-1 plays an important role in decreasing the fibrinolytic activity in human blood. PAI-1 is present in high concentrations in platelets and also in low concentrations in plasma, but the source of plasma PAI-1 is not known. READ MORE

7. Shedding light on glycosylation : Analysis of complex carbohydrates using an affinity biosensor
Abstract : The main objective during the work described in this thesis has been to develop assays for stodies of complex carbohydrates in a clinical context. Complex carbohydrates, such as free or protein linked oligosaccharides, have been shown to have important biological functions. READ MORE

8. Bacterial antibody hydrolyzing enzymes – as bacterial virulence factors and biotechnological tools
Abstract : Antibodies are an essential part of the human immune system, and antibody mediated immunity has been an area of interest for many researchers for almost a century. An accumulation of knowledge regarding antibody structure, glycosylation and receptor interactions has contributed to the current understanding of antibody mediated immunity. READ MORE

9. Glycan dependent Helicobacter spp. and Streptococcus oralis binding to mucins in the gastric and oral mucosal niches
Abstract : Helicobacter pylori infects the stomach of half of the world’s population, while Helicobacter suis colonizes pigs and is the most common non-H. pylori Helicobacter species that also infects human stomach. Infection with Helicobacter spp. is associated with chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric cancer. READ MORE

10. Mass spectrometry for comparative proteomics of degenerative and regenerative processes in the brain
Abstract : Biological processes involve changes at the protein level. Proteomics aims to determine protein changes from a normal state, to measure for instance recovery or disease progression. Mass spectrometry is the most important tool for identification of proteins and determination of post-translational modifications such as glycosylation. READ MORE
