  1. 1. Characterization and Crystallization of Anchorless Glypican-1

    Author : Gabriel Svensson Birkedal; Glykobiologigruppen; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; S-nitrosylation; nitric oxide; protein stability; protein conformation; X-ray crystallography; calorimetry; spectroscopy; proteoglycan; glypican; heparan sulfate;

    Abstract : Glypicans are cell-surface heparan sulfate proteoglycans that regulate Wnt, Hedgehog, bone morphogenetic protein, and fibroblast growth factor signaling through their heparan sulfate chains. Recent studies have shown that glypican core proteins also have functional roles in growth factor signaling, but biochemical and structural knowledge regarding the core proteins is limited. 2. 2. Biosynthesis of decorin and glypican glycosaminoglycan chains

    Author : Mats Jönsson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metabolism; Biochemistry; phosphorylation; biosynthesis; glycosaminoglycan; decorin; glypican; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : Proteoglycans consist of core proteins substituted with glycosaminoglycan chains. The galactosaminoglycans (GlcUA/IdoUA-GalNAc) and the glucosaminoglycans (GlcUA/IdoUA-GlcNAc) are both initiated on the same tetrasaccharide linkage region GlcUA-Gal-Gal-Xyl-protein. READ MORE

  3. 3. Involvement of Heparan Sulphate Biosynthesis and Turnover in Cell Proliferation. A Novel Role for Nitric Oxide in Recycling of Heparan Sulphate Proteoglycans

    Author : Katrin Mani; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nitrite.; nitric oxide; growth-inhibition; xyloside; glypican; heparan sulphate; Proteoglycan; glycosaminoglycan; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi;

    Abstract : The present investigation focuses on the role of HS metabolism in cell proliferation. The effect of the HS priming ß-D-xyloside, 2-(6-hydroxynaphthyl)-O-ß-D-xylopyranoside (Xyl-2-Nap-6-OH) on the proliferation of normal and transformed cells was studied. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interactions of Prion Proteins and PrP-derived Peptides in Scrapie infection

    Author : Kajsa Löfgren Söderberg; Astrid Gräslund; Marcus Fändrich; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spongiform encephalopathy; Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease; Amyloidosis; Neurodegeneration; Cell penetrating peptide; Protein Transduction Domain; Heparan sulfate; Proteoglycan; Glypican; Src family kinase; Fyn; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Prion diseases are fatal and incurable spongiform encephalopathies that occur amongst mammals. The central pathological event is the misfolding of the cellular prion protein (PrPC) into an amyloid, neurotoxic isoform called scrapie (PrPSc). PrPSc is the main, or sole, constituent of infectious prions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Endocytosis of therapeutic macromolecules in tumor cells - Mechanistic aspects of the proteoglycan receptor function

    Author : Anders Wittrup; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LL-37; heparan sulfate; glypican; endocytosis; drug delivery; DNA uptake; Cancer; cell penetrating peptides; non-viral gene delivery; organelle purification; proteoglycan; syndecan.;

    Abstract : Novel therapeutics to combat cancer are urgently needed. Most current pharmacological therapies have severe side effects and are seldom curative. Macromolecular drugs, and in particular nucleic acid based drugs, offer a potential remedy for this situation. READ MORE
