  1. 1. GABA-steroid effects in healthy subjects and women with polycystic ovary syndrome

    Author : Helena Hedström; Torbjörn Bäckström; Marie Bixo; Ian Milsom; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Allopregnanolone; isoallopregnanolone; gonadotropins; GABA-A receptor; women; polycystic ovary syndrome; saccade; obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Abstract : Background: The progesterone metabolite allopregnanolone is involved in several clinical conditions in women, e.g. premenstrual dysphoric disorder. It is a very potent GABA-steroid with GABA-A receptor effects similar to other GABA-agonists, e. READ MORE

  2. 2. Acupuncture in reproductive medicine. Applications in human assisted reproduction and aspects of clinical and experimental neuroendocrinology

    Author : Elisabet Stener-Victorin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electro-acupuncture; blood flow impedance; circulation; uterine artery; in-vitro fertilization; oocyte aspiration; polycystic ovary syndrome; experimentally induced PCO; anovulation; gonadotropins; steroids; neuropeptides; b-endorphin; nerve growth factor; corticotropin-releasing factor.;

    Abstract : The use of acupuncture in the area of reproductive medicine is relatively new, and it has been rather poorly investigated in the past. When muscle afferents are stimulated by acupuncture in somatic segments related to the innervation of the ovaries and the uterus, functional changes occur in the neural substrate that may influence reproductive function and result in peripheral, segmental and central effects. 3. 3. Human ovarian surface epithelium and ovarian cancer. Aspects of growth regulation

    Author : Karin Ivarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ovarian cancer ovarian surface epithelium interleukin-8 C EBP gonadotropins steroids;

    Abstract : The ovary is covered with a single layer of epithelial cells, the ovarian surface epithelium (OSE). The OSE is degraded during every menstrual cycle to enable ovulation, and is subsequently reconstituted to cover the rupture site. This single cell layer is proposed as the origin for about 90 % of all ovarian cancers. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chemotactic factors in the human follicle at ovulation

    Author : Eva Runesson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chemokine; follicle; gonadotropin; human; ovary; ovulation;

    Abstract : Ovulation is initiated by the midcycle gonadotropin surge, which leads to a controlled degradation of the follicle wall ending in follicular rupture and oocyte extrusion. The gonadotropins triggers several biochemical and biophysical changes such as vascular alterations, increased proteolytic enzyme activity and leukocyte extravasation, within the preovulatory follicle.
