1. In Vivo Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy of Human Tissue : From Point Measurements to Imaging
Abstract : This thesis presents the non-invasive use of diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) to provide information about the biochemical composition of living tissue. During DRS measurements, the incident, visible light is partially absorbed by chromophores but also scattered in the tissue before being remitted. READ MORE

2. Transforming the Doping Culture : Whose responsibility, what responsibility?
Abstract : The doping culture represents an issue for sport and for society. Normative debates on doping have been mainly concerned with questions of the justifiability of doping. The practice of assigning responsibility for doping behaviour has chiefly been individual-based, focusing mainly on the individual athlete’s doping behaviour. READ MORE

3. Biobank Research : Individual Rights and Public Benefit
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between individuals and society in the context of healthcare and medical research, more specifically concerning the rights and duties of individuals in regard to biobank-based research. My starting point is that we all have a strong vested interest in improved healthcare, and therefore the possibilities to conduct important research should be optimized. READ MORE

4. Cluster model of disordered systems : application to doped semiconductors and a simple model polymer
Abstract : In this thesis we study with an extended cluster model calculation the combined effect of disorder and electron-electron interaction on the electronic structure of doped semiconductors and a simple model polymer chain. First a one-band model using a Hartree calculation is compared to other authors result for the impurity band using less realistic Hamiltonians. READ MORE

5. Modelling flow with free and rough surfaces in the vicinity of hydropower plants
Abstract : Flow with free and rough surfaces near hydropower stations is of interest for both engineering and environmental applications. Here, Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations of free surface flow and flow over rough surfaces in regulated rivers were performed in applications such fish migration, spillway design and flow over rough surfaces as in hydropower tunnels or natural channels.
