26. Conduits in coronary artery bypass grafting surgery : Saphenous vein, radial and internal thoracic arteries
Abstract : A novel technique for saphenous vein (SV) graft harvesting, the No-touch technique (NT), has been developed at the Dept. of Cardiovascular surgery, Örebro University hospital. With NT the SV is harvested with a pedicle of surrounding tissue. This avoids graft spasm and eliminates the need for distension. READ MORE

27. Left ventricular filling during coronary artery bypass grafting
Abstract : Left ventricular (LV) filling, determination of preload, right ventricular end-diastolic volumes, volume contributions during early (E) and atrial (A) phases of LV filling and mitral valve opening areas were studied in 75 patients scheduled for elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The purposes of the study were: (1) To evaluate changes in LV filling judged as peak velocity E/A ratios determined by Doppler transesophageal echocardiography during and in the early phase after CABG. 28. Modification of stable and degradable polymers by heterogeneous grafting
Abstract : This thesis summarizes the investigations of the electronbeam initiated grafting of a hydrophilic monomer, acrylamide(AAm), onto three polymers; linear low density poly(ethylene)(LLDPE), poly(&-caprolactone) (PCL) and chemicallycrosslinked poly( 1,5-dioxepan-2-one) (PDXO-X). LLDPE and PCLare semicrystalline and PDXO-X is fully amorphous. READ MORE

29. Harvesting of Saphenous Vein for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting : An Improved Technique that Maintains Vein Wall Integrity and Provides a High Early Patency Rate
Abstract : The primary aim of this thesis was to modify saphenous vein (SV) harvesting technique and evaluate its clinical importance. A new "no touch" (NT) technique of SV preparation was developed where the vein is harvested with a pedicle of surrounding tissue, which protects the vein from spasm therefore obviating the need for distension. 30. Vascular Wall Responses to Bypass Grafting - Studies in Mice
Abstract : Abstract Vein grafts are frequently used in bypass surgery for treatment of coronary artery disease and lower limb ischemia. Unfortunately the long-term patency is impaired by vein graft stenoses due to intimal hyperplasia (IH). It is assumed that exaggerated intimal thickening is initiated by vessel wall injuries or local flow disturbances. READ MORE
