  1. 1. Atomistic modeling of interfaces in WC-Co cemented carbides

    Author : Martin Petisme; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; analytic bond order potentials; weing; WC-Co; grain boundary sliding; grain boundaries; density functional theory; molecular dynamics; interfaces; cemented carbides;

    Abstract : Grain and phase boundaries are crucial in understanding the properties of real materials. In this thesis, interfaces in WC–Co cemented carbide are modeled atomistically using density functional theory (DFT) and analytic interatomic potentials. READ MORE

  2. 2. High temperature performance of materials for future power plants

    Author : Junjing He; Pavel Korzhavyi; Rolf Sandström; Stefano Spigarelli; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Austenitic stainless steels; Nickel based superalloys; Low cycle fatigue; Creep-fatigue; Creep cavitation; Grain boundary sliding; Cavity nucleation; Cavity growth; Creep rupture strength; Advanced ultra-supercritical power plants.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : Increasing energy demand leads to two crucial problems for the whole society. One is the economic cost and the other is the pollution of the environment, especially CO2 emissions. Despite efforts to adopt renewable energy sources, fossil fuels will continue to dominate. READ MORE

  3. 3. Silicon Carbide Reinforced Alumina and Mullite Ceramics

    Author : Stefan Gustafsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ceramic Nanocomposites; Creep; SEM; SiC; Grain Boundaries; Microanalysis; Mullite; Pressureless Sintering; TEM; Alumina;

    Abstract : The aim of this work was to develop homogeneous ceramic nanocomposite materials with good thermal and structural stability as well as good mechanical properties. The development of microstructure was related to the material properties. READ MORE

  4. 4. Microstructure Development of WC-Co Based Cemented Carbides During Creep Testing

    Author : Mohamed Amine Yousfi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plastic deformation; TEM; APT; EBSD; WC grain growth.; Cr segregation;

    Abstract : The aim of this work is to understand the mechanisms behind the plastic deformation of WC‐Co based cemented carbides. The microstructure of two series with different WC grain size was investigated before and after creep deformation using quantitative microscopy, atom probe tomography, and transmission electron microscopy. 5. 5. Spark Plasma Sintering of Si3N4-based Ceramics : Sintering mechanism-Tailoring microstructure-Evaluationg properties

    Author : Hong Peng; Zhijian (James) Shen; Mats Nygren; Michael J. Hoffmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spark plasma sintering; silicon nitride ceramics; grain growth kinetic; superplasiticity; liqiud phase sintering; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) is a promising rapid consolidation technique that allows a better understanding and manipulating of sintering kinetics and therefore makes it possible to obtain Si3N4-based ceramics with tailored microstructures, consisting of grains with either equiaxed or elongated morphology. The presence of an extra liquid phase is necessary for forming tough interlocking microstructures in Yb/Y-stabilised α-sialon by HP. READ MORE
