  1. 1. Spark Plasma Sintering Enhancing Grain Sliding, Deformation and Grain Size Control : Studies of the Systems Ti, Ti/TiB2, Na0.5 K0.5 NbO3, and Hydroxyapatite

    Author : Mirva Eriksson; Zhijian Shen; Takashi Goto; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spark plasma sintering; plastic deformation; grain growth; titanium; TiB2; hydroxyapatite; Na0.5K0.5NbO3; ferroelectric; transparent; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : The unique features of the Spark plasma sintering (SPS) were used to investigate the sintering and deformation behaviour of titanium and titanium–titanium diboride composites, and to control the sintering and grain growth of ferroelectric Na0.5K0.5NbO3 (NKN) and of hydroxyapatite (HAp). 2. 2. Fundamental processes in thin film growth : The origin of compressive stress and the dynamics of the early growth stages

    Author : Daniel Magnfält; Ulf Helmsersson; Eric Chason; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The fundamental mechanisms behind the generation of compressive stresses in polycrystalline thin films, the effects of pulsed deposition fluxes on the dynamics of the early growth stages as well as the generation of energetic Ar+ ions in high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) discharges has been studied in this thesis.It was found that compressive film stresses in Mo films deposited using energetic vapor fluxes are correlated with high film densities while only a slight lattice expansion compared to relaxed Mo was found. 3. 3. Thermal Stability of Electrodeposited Nanocrystalline Ni- and Co-Based Materials

    Author : Melina da Silva; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nanocrystalline materials; 3DAP; nanocomposite; thermal stability; TEM; nickel; texture; DSC; cobalt; grain growth; EBSD;

    Abstract : The attractive properties associated with nanocrystalline materials are to a large extent a result of their high intercrystalline volume fraction. However, the intrinsic instability of the nanostructured state may compromise the gain in properties by the occurrence of grain growth during exposure at elevated temperatures. READ MORE

  4. 4. Spark Plasma Sintering of Si3N4-based Ceramics : Sintering mechanism-Tailoring microstructure-Evaluationg properties

    Author : Hong Peng; Zhijian (James) Shen; Mats Nygren; Michael J. Hoffmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spark plasma sintering; silicon nitride ceramics; grain growth kinetic; superplasiticity; liqiud phase sintering; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) is a promising rapid consolidation technique that allows a better understanding and manipulating of sintering kinetics and therefore makes it possible to obtain Si3N4-based ceramics with tailored microstructures, consisting of grains with either equiaxed or elongated morphology. The presence of an extra liquid phase is necessary for forming tough interlocking microstructures in Yb/Y-stabilised α-sialon by HP. READ MORE
