  1. 1. Sedimentological and Hydrological Investigation of Mosul Dam Reservoir

    Author : Issa E Issa; Ian Foster; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Area-storage capacity curves; Area reduction method; Bathymetric survey; Losing storage capacity; Mosul dam; Reservoir bottom morphology; Reservoir sedimentation; Sediment trap efficiency; Useful life of dam; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : Reservoir sedimentation is the main problem that directly affects the performance of dams due to the reduction in the storage capacity of their reservoirs. Monitoring the storage capacity of reservoirs is an important issue for the planners, designers and operators of the dams. READ MORE

  2. 2. Volatility, integration and grain banks : studies in harvests, rye prices and institutional development of the parish magasins in Sweden in the 18th and 19th centuries

    Author : Bengt-Åke Berg; Handelshögskolan i Stockholm; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This study is the first to focus primarily on the Swedish parish magasins, the country’s most widespread credit institution in the last half of the 18th, and the first part of the 19th, century. During the Early Modern Period, grain price volatility was a matter of great concern. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sediment Characteristics and Sedimentation Rate Estimation in the Dukan Reservoir

    Author : Rebwar Hassan; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Sven Knutsson; Salahalddin S. Ali; Fadhil Ahmed Ameen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Area-storage-capacity curves; Bathymetric survey; Dukan dam; Land use; Reservoir sedimentation; Sediment trap efficiency; SWAT; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : The Dukan Reservoir has been created from the construction of the Dukan Dam on the Lesser Zab River where it crosses the Khalakan Thrust Sheet (Khalakan Mountains) through a gorge 65 km northwest of Sulaimani and 295 km northeast of Baghdad. The Dukan Dam is a multi-purpose dam which was built from 1954 to 1959 to control the flooding of the Lesser Zab River, and to provide irrigation, hydroelectricity, and water storage. READ MORE

  4. 4. Post-Harvest Losses, Intimate Partner Violence and Food Security in Tanzania

    Author : Martin Julius Chegere; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; post-harvest losses; intimate partner violence; hermetic bags; training; post-harvest handling pratices; randomised controlled trial; cost-benefit analysis;

    Abstract : High levels of food losses occurring after harvesting offset the effort to increase food production. This situation increases the risk of food insecurity and low incomes among smallholder farmers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Landscape partitioning and burial processes of soil organic carbon in contrasting areas of continuous permafrost

    Author : Juri Palmtag; Peter Kuhry; Gustaf Hugelius; Stephan Gruber; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soil organic carbon; total nitrogen; permafrost; cryoturbation; geomorphology; land cover classification; slope processes; texture; upscaling; carbon nitrogen ratio; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Recent studies have shown that permafrost soils in the northern circumpolar region store almost twice as much carbon as the atmosphere. Since soil organic carbon (SOC) pools have large regional and landscape-level variability, detailed SOC inventories from across the northern permafrost region are needed to assess potential remobilization of SOC with permafrost degradation and to quantify the permafrost carbon-climate feedback on global warming.
