  1. 1. Geochemical Development of Proterozoic Granites in the SW Baltic Shield

    Author : Kirsten Holme; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; principal component analysis; granite classification; magma evolution; magma genesis; granite; Eastern Segment; Western Segment; Southwestern Swedish Gneiss Complex; Sweden; Sveconorwegian Orogen; Petrology; mineralogy; geochemistry; Petrologi; mineralogi; geokemi; Geology; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : The plutonic rocks in the Western Segment of the Southwestern Swedish Gneiss Complex show a distinct geochemical evolution. The 1.6 Ga Åmål granitoids and Slottsbron migmatites are a quartz dioritic to granodioritic, calc-alkaline rock suite with smooth, but somewhat fractionated, REE and other trace-element patterns. 2. 2. Specific surface area of some minerals commonly found in granite

    Author : Isabelle E. Dubois; Maria E. Malmström; Bo Strömberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Granite; Mineral; Surface area; BET; Sorption; Particle size;

    Abstract : The specific surface area, determined by the BET method, is a parameter often used to scale results of mineral studies of surface reactions in terms of rate and capacity to the field scale. Such extrapolations of results from small-scale laboratory experiments to the field-scale are important within many environmental applications. READ MORE

  3. 3. Evolution of a silicic magma reservoir in the upper crust : Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland

    Author : Emma Rhodes; Steffi Burchardt; Abigail Barker; Charles F. Parker; Alexander Cruden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma; magma emplacement; magma reservoir; floor subsidence; piecemeal subsidence; granite; pluton; cap-rock; magma mingling; magma plumbing systems; volcanic and igneous plumbing systems; eruption; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : Field observations of extinct and exposed magma reservoirs shed light on processes operating in the roots of presently active volcanoes. The Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland is an example of a fossil shallow magma reservoir that fed eruptions. READ MORE

  4. 4. The dynamic emplacement of felsic magma in the upper crust

    Author : Tobias Mattsson; Steffi Burchardt; Karen Mair; Christoph Breitkreuz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laccolith; cryptodome; magma emplacement; magma flow; magma rheology; granite; rhyolite; pluton; AMS; XCT; thermobarometry; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : Felsic magma intrudes earth’s upper crust through a variety of mechanisms. Magma intrusion growth and shape have mainly been explained in terms of host rock properties and intrusion depth, while considering the magma as an overpressurised fluid. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fluoride in surface water and groundwater in southeast Sweden : sources, controls and risk aspects

    Author : Tobias Berger; Mats E. Åström; Pasi Peltola; Henrik Drake; Olle Selinus; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorine; fluoride; water-rock interaction; granite; crystalline bedrock; surface water; groundwater; Götemar; drinking water quality; aluminium; speciation; fluorosis; PBA; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to determine the sources, controls and risk aspects of fluoride in surface water and groundwater in a region of southeastern Sweden where the fluorine-rich 1.45 Ga circular Götemar granite (5 km in diameter) crops out in the surrounding 1.8 Ga granites and quartz monzodiorites (TIB rocks).
