  1. 6. Development of strength and heat of hydration of young concrete at low temperature - influence of granulated blast furnace slag, silica and limestone

    Author : Monica Lundgren; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; låga temperaturer; värmeavgivning; betong; betonggjutning; hållfasthet; hydratation;

    Abstract : The work presented in this licentiate thesis was carried out within the project task Use of industrial by-products and filler in concrete, part Early-age strength development at low temperatures in concrete with mineral additions/fillers. To improve the understanding and to increase the data available, the study investigated the development of compressive strength and heat of hydration while curing at 5°C compared with curing at 20°C. 2. 7. Experimental studies of ion transport in cementitious materials under partially saturated conditions

    Author : Nilla Olsson; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : Cement; Bruk; Betong; Jontransport; Fukttransport; Sorptionsisoterm; Tillsatsmaterial; Kiselstoft; Masugnsslagg; Ciment; Mortier; Béton; Transport ionique; Transport d humidité; Sorption de vapeur d eau; Additions minérales; Fumée de silice; Laitier de haut fourneau granulé moulu; Cement; Mortar; Concrete; Ion transport; moisture transport; Water vapor sorption; Supplementary cementitious materials SCMs ; Silica fume; Ground granulated blast furnace slag;

    Abstract : Cement production is responsible for a significant portion of manmade CO2 emissions. This motivates the development of cementitious binders with a lower carbon footprint. Considering the emissions in a longer perspective, the durability of concrete structures is absolutely essential. READ MORE

  3. 8. Suitability of industrial residues for preventing acid rock drainage generation from waste rock

    Author : Elsa Nyström; Lena Alakangas; Hanna Kaasalainen; Christian Maurice; Päivi M. Kauppila; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geochemistry; Tillämpad geokemi;

    Abstract : One of the main and most challenging environmental problems related to mining is the generation of acid rock drainage (ARD), a leachate characterized by low pH and elevated concentrations of sulfate, metals, and metalloids formed when sulfide-bearing minerals are subjected to oxygen and water. During the operation of a mine, waste rock is often deposited in heaps and usually left under ambient conditions, enabling sulfides to oxidize. READ MORE

  4. 9. Treatment conditions for the removal of contaminants from road runoff

    Author : Magnus Hallberg; Gunno Renman; Jiri Marsalek; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dissolved matter; filter bed; particulate matter; sedimentation; suspended solids; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The pollutant load in road runoff is related to traffic densities and road maintenance activities. Inurbanised areas treatment of road runoff is common and often considered necessary. The pollutantsare partitioned between the particulate and dissolved matter. However, the contaminantstend to have an affinity to the particulate material. READ MORE

  5. 10. Cementitious properties of steelmaking slags

    Author : Daniel Adolfsson; Bart Blanpain; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : The present study is directed towards the use of steelmaking slags as raw material for sulphoaluminate belite cement (SAB). Another important objective was to characterise the cementitious properties of phases in ladle furnace slag (LFS) specifically the calcium aluminates. READ MORE
