  1. 11. Properties and applications of materials based on graphite oxide

    Author : Andreas Nordenström; Aleksandr V. Talyzin; Thomas Wågberg; Andrey Turchanin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene; Graphite Oxide; Graphene Oxide; Swelling; Phase Transition; Intercalation; Activated Graphene; Activated Carbon; Supercapacitors; Neutron Reflectometry;

    Abstract : Graphite oxide (GO) is a hydrophilic, layered material prepared by oxidation of graphite. In the first part of this thesis, we studied materials produced from GO by intercalation and functionalization. The second part of the thesis was focused on supercapacitor applications of high surface area carbons prepared from GO using chemical activation. READ MORE

  2. 12. Development of Mild Methods for Selective Covalent Functionalization of Graphene

    Author : Anna Lundstedt; Grennberg Helena; Bo Wegge Laursen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; graphene models; graphite; local ionization energy surfaces; graphene functionalization; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses methods for the comparatively mild covalent functionalization of graphene. Several graphene models were investigated: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-graphene on SiO2/Si substrate, graphite foil, graphite flakes, kish graphite and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite. 3. 13. Materials prepared using graphite oxides : properties and applications

    Author : Artem Iakunkov; Aleksandr V. Talyzin; Josef Breu; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene oxide; Activated Graphene; Swelling; Supercapacitor; Sorption of radionuclides; Materials Science; materialvetenskap; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Graphite oxides are hydrophilic materials, which have attracted a lot of attention due to unique properties and possible applications. The current thesis includes studies of fundamental properties and applications of graphite oxides as well as materials prepared from graphite oxides such as graphene oxide membranes, defect-rich graphite oxide, reduced graphene oxide and activated reduced graphene oxide. 4. 14. Design and Characterisation of new Anode Materials for Lithium-Ion Batteries

    Author : Linda Fransson; Anthony West; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; in situ X-ray diffraction; graphite; Li-ion battery; anode materials; intermetallics; structure-property relationships; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Reliable ways of storing energy are crucial to support our modern way of life; lithium-ion batteries provide an attractive solution. The constant demand for higher energy density, thinner, lighter and even more mechanically flexible batteries has motivated research into new battery materials. Some of these will be explored in this thesis. READ MORE

  5. 15. Paper-based Supercapacitors

    Author : Britta Andres; Håkan Olin; Mats Sandberg; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; graphene; graphite; paper; nano fibrillated cellulose; supercapacitor; electric double-layer capacitor; energy storage; roll-to-roll; coating; kinetic energy recovery;

    Abstract : The growing market of mobile electronic devices, renewable off-grid energy sources and electric vehicles requires high-performance energy storage devices. Rechargeable batteries are usually the first choice due to their high energy density. However, supercapacitors have a higher power density and longer life-time compared to batteries. READ MORE
