1. Principles and Models of Solid Fuel Combustion
Abstract : Combustion of solid fuels stands for a substantial part of the heat and power production in the world. In this thesis different aspects related to the thermochemical conversion of solid fuels in fluidized and fixed beds are treated, such as: the combustion temperature of a fuel particle related to the surrounding temperature in a fluidized bed combustor (FBC); the fuel loading in a FBC; a transient description of the conversion of non-spherical fuel particles; the thermochemical properties and composition of volatiles released from wood; the thermal conductivity of wood during different stages of conversion; the modelling of a grate furnace; the general combustion behaviour of a fixed bed on a reciprocating or a travelling grate; and finally, the design and construction of experimental units for investigation of combustion in a fixed bed. 2. Modelling and Experimental Investigations on Thermal Radiation in Combustion Environments
Abstract : Thermal radiation is an important physical phenomenon in combustion environments. For the understanding of existing- and the design of new combustion environments computational modelling is a useful tool as it can describe the different transport phenomena. READ MORE

4. Characterization of conversion zones in a reciprocating grate furnace firing wet woody biomass
Abstract : Grate-firing systems are a common and popular combustion technology for burning biomass. However, combustion of biomass in these furnaces may emit a large amount of pollutants in the form of CO, CH4, PAH, NOx, and particles. READ MORE

5. Deposit formation in the grate-kiln process
Abstract : Deposit formation in the grate-kiln process is a challenge for the iron ore pellet production industry. The deposits cause disturbances that affect the production capacity of the pelletizing plant. READ MORE
