  1. 1. Cosmic tests of massive gravity

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Physics, Stockholm University

    Author : Jonas Enander; Stockholms universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Modified gravity; massive gravity; cosmology; dark energy; dark matter; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : Massive gravity is an extension of general relativity where the graviton, which mediates gravitational interactions, has a non-vanishing mass. The first steps towards formulating a theory of massive gravity were made by Fierz and Pauli in 1939, but it took another 70 years until a consistent theory of massive gravity was written down. 2. 2. New Techniques for Estimation of Source Parameters Applications to Airborne Gravity and Pseudo-Gravity Gradient Tensors

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Majid Beiki; Uppsala universitet.; [2011]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gravity gradient tensor; pseudo-gravity; magnetic field; eigenvector analysis; least squares algorithm; strike direction; source parameter estimation; analytic signal; Euler deconvolution; joint inversion; infinite dike model; geological contact model; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences Endogenous earth sciences Solid earth physics; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap Endogen geovetenskap Fasta jordens fysik; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : Gravity gradient tensor (GGT) data contains the second derivatives of the Earth’s gravitational potential in three orthogonal directions. GGT data can be measured either using land, airborne, marine or space platforms. READ MORE

  3. 3. Stringed along or caught in a loop? Philosophical reflections on modern quantum gravity research

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Uppsala universitet, Filosofiska Institutionen

    Author : Keizo Matsubara; Uppsala universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; quantum gravity; string theory; loop quantum gravity; philosophy of physics; philosophy of science; scientific realism; structural realism; multiverse; thought experiments; Theoretical Philosophy; Teoretisk filosofi;

    Abstract : A number of philosophical questions, all connected to modern research in quantum gravity, are discussed in this dissertation.The goal of research in quantum gravity is to find a quantum theory for gravitation; the other fundamental forces are already understood in terms of quantum physics. 4. 4. Geoid Model of Tanzania from Sparse and Varying Gravity Data Density by the KTH method

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Prosper Ulotu; KTH.; [2009]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geoid; sparse gravity data; gravity database; GGM validation by gravity; corrector surface; hybrid geoid; KTH-LSMS with AC; Mt. Kilimanjaro; Tanzania.; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : Developed countries are striving to achieve a cm geoid model. Most developing countries/regions think that the situation in their areas does not allow even a few decimetre geoid model. GNSS, which provides us with position, is one of the greatest achievements of the present time. READ MORE

  5. 5. Making Maps and Keeping Logs Quantum Gravity from Classical Viewpoints

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Niklas Johansson; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; String theory; black holes in string theory; Calabi-Yau geometry; flux compactifications; three-dimensional gravity; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Other physics Mathematical physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Övrig fysik Matematisk fysik; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis explores three different aspects of quantum gravity. First we study D3-brane black holes in Calabi-Yau compactifications of type IIB string theory. Using the OSV conjecture and a relation between topological strings and matrix models we show that some black holes have a matrix model description. READ MORE
