  1. 1. Detecting novel effects of exercise or AMPK activation in human skeletal muscle

    Author : David Gray Lassiter; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular and metabolic disorders are among the main causes of death today. Regular exercise can prevent and treat these chronic diseases. A molecule at the center of exercise adaptations in skeletal muscle is adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK). READ MORE

  2. 2. The cell wall ultrastructure of wood fibres : effects of the chemical pulp fibre line

    Author : Jesper Fahlén; Ulf W. Gedde; Drek G. Gray; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; atomic force microscopy; cellulose; cell wall; drying; fiber; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Knowledge of the ultrastructural arrangement within wood fibres is important for understanding the mechanical properties of the fibres themselves, as well as for understanding and controlling the ultrastructural changes that occur during pulp processing. The object of this work was to explore the use of atomic force microscopy (AFM) in studies of the cell wall ultrastructure and to see how this structure is affected in the kraft pulp fibre line. 3. 3. Optimised performance of industrial high resolution computerised tomography

    Author : Måns Mångård; Joseph N. Gray; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The purpose of non-descructive enluation (NDE) is to acquire knowledge of the investigated sample. Digital x-ray imaging techniques such as radiography or computerised tomography (CI) produce images of the interior of a sample. The obtained image quality determines the possibility of detecting sample, ·elated features, e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and vegetation in the Fennoscandian tundra

    Author : Jonas Dahlgren; Lauri Oksanen; Johan Olofsson; John Terborgh; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gray-sided voles; tundra vegetation; trophic cascades; plant-herbivore interactions; bilberry; plant communities; herbivory; plant resistance; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Abstract : I have, in this thesis, studied the interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and tundra vegetation, on islands in, and mainland sites close to the lake Iešjávri, in northern Norway. As isolated islands are virtually free of predation, I have been able to compare plant-herbivore interactions in the presence and absence of predators. READ MORE

  5. 5. Toward better image reproduction in offset

    Author : Emmi Enoksson; Nils Enlund; Ulf Lindqvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Images; offset; printing; ICC; color; gamut; profile; calibration; separation; GCR; UCR; characterization; gray balance; Computer science; Datalogi; Media and communication studies; Medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis has focused on color reproduction processes in the graphics field and is based on theoretical research and practical studies. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how new tools and tools adapted to a specific production set-up can be used to raise awareness regarding the quality and workflow of images and image processing for sheet-fed offset within the graphic industry.
