  1. 1. Particle image velocimetry in practice

    Author : Torbjörn Green; Kristian Angele; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Experimental fluid mechanics has for a long time been used to visualize flow phenomenon. An early pioneer was Ludwig Prandtl who used aluminum particles in water flumes to describe the flow in a qualitative manner. In line with the rapid development of Computational Fluid Dynamics, CFD, the need for new validation tools has increased. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bridges, Walls, Doors : On Democracy and Nature

    Author : Rickard Andersson; Statsvetenskapliga institutionen; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; human-nature relations; democracy; nature; political order; conceptual analysis; intellectual history; the Anthropocene;

    Abstract : The concept of green democracy has been advanced in green political theory as a way to include the natural world in the political and, by that, overcome an alleged wall, a fundamental disunity, separating humans and nature in modernity and substitute it with a unity of identity that would bridge the gap between them. It has also been vested with the coupled power to transform society in a sustainable direction. READ MORE

    Abstract : Sustainable wood nanotechnologies that combine optical transmittance and mechanical performance are interesting for new functionalities utilizing transparency. Wood is a sophisticated bio-based material with a natural hierarchical, anisotropic and porous structure. READ MORE

  4. 4. Production and characterisation of pine wood powders from a multi-blade shaft mill

    Author : Atanu Kumar Das; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Wood is an important raw material for the manufacture of consumer products and in achieving societal goals for greater sustainability. Wood powders are feedstock for many biorefining and conversion techniques, including chemical, enzymatic and thermochemical processes and for composite manufacture, 3D printing and wood pellet production. 5. 5. Cell wall bulking and distribution of different chemicals in pine, Pinus Sylvestris

    Author : Lennart Wallström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träteknik; Wood Technology;

    Abstract : The interaction between wood, Pinus sylvestris, (60% RH) and polyethyleneglycol (PEG) of different molecular weights (PEG 200 and PEG 1500), pentaerythritol and glycerol, impregnated into the wood, has been investigated using Scanning Electron Microscopy, EDS-analysis, dynamical mechanical techniques (DMTA), X-ray diffraction (WAXS) and macroscopic dimensional measurement. Reduced dimensional changes after impregnation when exposed to environments with changing moisture content, showed that the stabilization effect of glycerol and PEG 200 impregnation is very good.
