  1. 6. Sociotechnical system studies of the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from energy and transport systems

    Author : Linda Olsson; Mats Söderström; Annelie Carlson; Magdalena Fallde; Elisabeth Wetterlund; Kes McCormick; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy systems; transport systems; greenhouse gas emissions; energy policy; transport policy; sociotechnical systems analysis; wicked problem; Energisystem; transportsystem; växthusgasutsläpp; energipolicy; transportpolicy; socioteknisk systemanalys; wicked problem;

    Abstract : It is agreed that greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from energy and transport systems must be reduced. Technical means exist to reduce GHG emissions from these sources. However, these emission-reduction measures are not implemented to a high enough degree. READ MORE

  2. 7. Power to gas : Bridging renewable electricity to the transport sector

    Author : Farzad Mohseni; Per Alvfors; Mats Westermark; Lars Pettersson; Maria Grahn; Björn Frostell; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transport; renewable electricity; synthetic fuels; energy; power to gas;

    Abstract : Globally, transport accounts for a significant part of the total energy utilization and is heavily dominated by fossil fuels. The main challenge is how the greenhouse gas emissions in road transport can be addressed. Moreover, the use of fossil fuels in road transport makes most countries or regions dependent on those with oil and/or gas assets. READ MORE

  3. 8. Avoiding greenhouse gas emissions using flexibility in smart thermal grids

    Author : Jay Hennessy; Hailong Li; Justin Chiu; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; district heating; thermal grids; flexibility; avoided emissions; thermal storage; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The Paris Agreement on climate change entered into force in 2016 and has been ratified by 193 of the 197 Parties to-date, followed by country targets to cut greenhouse gas emissions, not least through an increasing penetration of renewable energy sources. In its 2021 annual World Energy Outlook, the IEA envisages a Net-Zero Emissions by 2050 scenario (NZE) in which renewables as a percentage of total energy supply increase from around 10% in 2020 to over 65% in 2050 and is reflected by a similar change in the percentage of variable renewables in total generation, thereby increasing the need for system flexibility. 4. 9. Peatlands at a Threshold: Greenhouse Gas Dynamics in a Changing Climate

    Author : Magnus Lund; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chamber; greenhouse gas; nitrous oxide; methane; carbon dioxide; carbon; bog; Peatland; mire; eddy covariance; nitrogen; phosphorus; fertilization;

    Abstract : To be able to predict the strength of climate change and its consequences for mankind, it is of major importance to understand the contemporary greenhouse gas exchange of the terrestrial biosphere, as well as its response to changes in climate. To achieve such understanding both descriptive studies and manipulation experiments are required. READ MORE

  5. 10. Life Cycle Impacts of Road Infrastructure : Assessment of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions

    Author : Sofiia Miliutenko; Anna Björklund; Robert Karlsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cumulative Energy Demand CED ; Global Warming Potential GWP ; Life Cycle Assessment LCA ; road infrastructure; strategic planning;

    Abstract : Road infrastructure is essential in the development of human society, but has both negative and positive impacts. Large amounts of money and natural resources are spent each year on its construction, operation and maintenance. Obviously, there is potentially significantenvironmental impact associated with these activities. READ MORE
