  1. 1. Linking water and permafrost dynamics

    Author : Ylva Sjöberg; Steve Lyon; Andrew Frampton; Britta Sannel; Georgia Destouni; Michelle Walvoord; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; permafrost; hydrology; arctic; modeling; streamflow; geophysical measurements; ground thermal dynamics; groundwater; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The extent and dynamics of permafrost are tightly linked to the distribution and movement of water in arctic landscapes. As the Arctic warms more rapidly than the global average, profound changes are expected in both permafrost and hydrology; however, much is still not known about the interactions between these two systems. 2. 2. Theoretical Studies of Ground and Excited State Reactivity

    Author : Pooria Farahani; Marcus Lundberg; Hans Karlsson; Isabelle Navizet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemical Reactivity; Computational Chemistry; Dynamics; Ground and Excited States; Chemiluminescence; Atmospheric Chemistry;

    Abstract : To exemplify how theoretical chemistry can be applied to understand ground and excited state reactivity, four different chemical reactions have been modeled. The ground state chemical reactions are the simplest models in chemistry. To begin, a route to break down halomethanes through reactions with ground state cyano radical has been selected. READ MORE

  3. 3. Permafrost Groundwater Dynamics : Modeling of vertical and lateral flows in the active layer across multiple scales

    Author : Alexandra Hamm; Andrew Frampton; Peter Kuhry; Jeffrey McKenzie; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; permafrost; climate change; numerical modeling; hydrogeology; groundwater; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : Hydrological processes in the Arctic are profoundly influenced by the presence of permanently frozen ground, known as permafrost. Conversely, permafrost is greatly affected by hydrological changes resulting from climate change. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optical Diagnostics of Non-thermal Plasmas and Plasma-assisted Combustion

    Author : Jiajian Zhu; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High-speed photography; Laser diagnostics; Planar laser-induced fluorescence; Plasma-assisted combustion; Non-thermal plasmas; Gliding arc discharge; Optical diagnostics; Particle tracking velocimetry; Fysicumarkivet A:2015:Zhu;

    Abstract : Non-thermal plasma is regarded as a collection of free electrons, ions and neutral particles that are not at local thermodynamic equilibrium. The high-energetic electrons formed in non-thermal plasmas are capable of generating chemically active species and modifying chemical kinetics in practical applications. READ MORE

  5. 5. Atom Dynamics and Diffusion on Surfaces

    Author : Alexander Bogicevic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis is a theoretical study of atomic diffusion processes in condensed matter, with particular emphasis on surface diffusion. Oxygen adsorption and diffusion on the (111) surface of platinum is studied using a first-principles pseudopotential plane-wave approach based on density functional theory, with local (LDA) and semi-local functionals (GGA) for the exchange-correlation energy.
