  1. 1. Groundwater-Seawater Interactions : Seawater Intrusion, Submarine Groundwater Discharge and Temporal Variability and Randomness Effects

    Author : Carmen Prieto; Georgia Destouni; Vassilios Kaleris; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydraulic engineering; Seawater intrusion; submarine groundwater discharge; coastal groundwater management; coastal zone management; temporal variability; temporal randomness; Vattenteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Fresh groundwater quality and availability in coastal areas is affected by seawater intrusion into coastal aquifers, and coastal water quality and ecosystem status may be significantly affected by groundwater pollutants that are transported into coastal waters by submarine groundwater dis-charge (SGD). This thesis uses an overall regional perspective for investigating: i) seawater intru-sion and its possible control in sustainable coastal groundwater management; ii) SGD and its relevant quantification as one interacting part among the diverse main regional pathways of freshwater and tracer/pollutant inputs from land to sea; and iii) the integrated system functioning of both i) and ii) as main components of the same coastal groundwater system. 2. 2. Modelling of Groundwater Conditions in Silts and Fine Sands. A Study of Induced Groundwater Changes Based on Laboratory and Full-Scale Field Tests

    Author : Marius Tremblay; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fine sand; laboratory tests; numerical simulation; silt; soil mechanics; groundwater; pore pressure; field tests; soil matric suction; partially saturated soil; groundwater conditions;

    Abstract : Every day, geotechnical engineers have to deal with groundwater problems. In order to find suitable solutions to these problems, modelling of the groundwater conditions and their variations in time has to be performed. A study of the groundwater conditions in silts and fine sands was made including laboratory and full-scale field tests. READ MORE

  3. 3. Protection of major groundwater resources : a computer based management tool for Swedish conditions

    Author : Riitta Lindström; KTH; []

  4. 4. Secondary currents in groundwater

    Author : Maria Engström; Bo Nordell; Anders Sellgren; Clifford Voss; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Groundwater; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : The thesis concerns the small vertical water movements created by thermal convection and the Coriolis force acting on groundwater flows. These small flows are of importance to vertical transports of temperature, nutrients and contaminants that would not be spread in the way they are. READ MORE

  5. 5. Groundwater defluoridation by natural minerals : Understanding the process of fluoride removal from drinking water sources in Tanzania
