  1. 6. Topographic Control of Groundwater Flow

    Author : Lars Marklund; Anders Wörman; Shulan Xu; Roy Haggerty; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Groundwater; Modeling; Topography; Spectral analysis; Fourier series; Exact solu-tions; Multi-scale; Grundvatten; Modellering; Topografi; Spektralanalys; Fourier serier; Analytisk lösning; Flerskalig; Hydrology; Hydrologi; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Gravity is the main driving force for groundwater flow, and both landscape topography and geology distribute the effects of gravity on groundwater flow.  The groundwater table defines the distribution of the potential energy of the water. READ MORE

  2. 7. Groundwater defluoridation by natural minerals : Understanding the process of fluoride removal from drinking water sources in Tanzania

    Author : Vivian Kimambo; Prosun Bhattacharya; Felix Mtalo; Jyoti Prakash Maity; Jan Hoinkis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluoride removal; Groundwater; Natural minerals; Adsorption isotherms; Batch- and Column Experiments; Kinetics and thermodynamics; Drinking water quality; Sustainability; Kuondolewa kwa fluoride; Maji ya chini ya ardhi; Madini ya asili; isotherms za majaribio ya adsorbenti; Majaribio ya Kundi- na Safu; Kinetics na thermodynamics; ubora wa maji ya kunywa; Uendelevu; Fluoridavlägsnande; Grundvatten; Naturliga mineraler; Batch- och kolonnförsök; Adsorptionsisotermer; Kinetik och termodynamik; Dricksvattenkvalitet; Hållbarhet; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : Fluoride (F-) concentration in drinking water is one of the water quality parameters in countries with high concentrations in groundwater sources. Natural minerals have shown considerable effectiveness in F- removal. READ MORE

  4. 9. Modelling of Groundwater Conditions in Silts and Fine Sands. A Study of Induced Groundwater Changes Based on Laboratory and Full-Scale Field Tests

    Author : Marius Tremblay; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fine sand; laboratory tests; numerical simulation; silt; soil mechanics; groundwater; pore pressure; field tests; soil matric suction; partially saturated soil; groundwater conditions;

    Abstract : Every day, geotechnical engineers have to deal with groundwater problems. In order to find suitable solutions to these problems, modelling of the groundwater conditions and their variations in time has to be performed. A study of the groundwater conditions in silts and fine sands was made including laboratory and full-scale field tests. READ MORE

  5. 10. Groundwater resources in hard rock coastal terrains : Insights into heterogeneity and spatial variability

    Author : Robert Earon; Bo Olofsson; Okke Batelaan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Crystalline Rock; Groundwater Balance; Kinematic porosity; Groundwater Recharge; Water Security; Coastal Aquifer; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Challenges regarding water security in hard rock coastal regions with limited soil cover are: a seasonal absence of recharge during times of peak residency, heterogeneity and variability of the fracture network, close proximity to saline water sources and spatially inconsistent storage and extraction. In areas where it is not feasible to connect residents to municipal water systems, a better understanding of the resilience of reservoirs is needed. READ MORE
