  2. 2. Majorana Representation in Quantum Optics : SU(2) Interferometry and Uncertainty Relations

    Author : Saroosh Shabbir; Gunnar Björk; Maria Chekhova; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Majorana representation; Quantum optics; interferometry; SU 2 group; angular momentum; arbitrary optical gates; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The algebra of SU(2) is ubiquitous in physics, applicable both to the atomic spin states and the polarisation states of light. The method developed by Majorana and Schwinger to represent pure, symmetric spin-states of arbitrary value as a product of spin-1/2 states is a powerful tool that allows for a great conceptual and practical simplification. 3. 3. Understanding the Conditions and Consequences of Women’s Political Representation

    Author : Valeriya Mechkova; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Descriptive Representation; Substantive Representation; Women and Politics;

    Abstract : In recent decades, women’s ability to engage in politics and civil society has risen dramatically across the globe. What has the increase in the number of women in politics, their “descriptive representation”, meant in substantive terms for women-citizens but also for societies in general? This dissertation contributes to clarifying the effects of descriptive representation of women on substantive representation, defined as the policy areas women tend to prioritize to a higher degree than men. 5. 5. A Categorical Study of Composition Algebras via Group Actions and Triality

    Author : Seidon Alsaody; Ernst Dieterich; Ryszard Rubinsztein; Alberto Elduque; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Composition algebra; division algebra; absolute valued algebra; triality; groupoid; group action; algebraic group; Lie algebra of derivations; classification.; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : A composition algebra is a non-zero algebra endowed with a strictly non-degenerate, multiplicative quadratic form. Finite-dimensional composition algebras exist only in dimension 1, 2, 4 and 8 and are in general not associative or unital. Over the real numbers, such algebras are division algebras if and only if they are absolute valued, i.e. READ MORE
