  1. 1. Experimental Studies of Ursolic Acid and Alkaline Sphingomyelinase in Colon Cancer and Colitis

    Author : David Andersson; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Sphingomyelin (SM) is a sphingolipid present in all eukaryotic cell membranes. Hydrolysis of SM by sphingomyelinase (SMase) generates ceramide, which has effects on cell-cycle regulation and apoptosis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Micromechanical retention and chemical bonding to polycrystalline dental ceramics : studies on aluminum oxide and stabilized zirconium dioxide

    Author : Evaggelia Papia; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alumina; aluminium oxide; bond strength; oxide ceramics; polycrystalline dental ceramics; stabilized zirconium dioxide; Y-TZP; zirconia; adhesive cements;

    Abstract : Det pågår en ständig utveckling av olika dentala material avsedda föratt ersätta förlorad tandsubstans. En materialgrupp som är särskiltintressant är höghållfasta keramiska material, oxidkeramer så somyttriumdioxidstabiliserad tetragonal polykristallin zirkoniumdioxid(Y-TZP). READ MORE

  3. 3. Carbohydrate-restricted diets in diabetes and the irritable bowel syndrome. Effects on symptoms, inflammation and microbiota

    Author : Clara Nilholm; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes; IBS; carbohydrates; metabolism; inflammation; microbiota; miRNA;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis explores the effects of carbohydrate(CHO)-restricted diets on symptoms and disease-related variables in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Aims were to examine the effects of (I) the moderately-low CHO Okinawan-based Nordic diet on anthropometry and metabolism and microbiota-related, inflammatory, and cognitive parameters in T2DM, and (II) the low-CHO starch- and sucrose reduced diet on gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, dietary intakes, inflammatory parameters, microbiota and microribonucleic acid (miRNA) expression in IBS. 4. 4. Molecular mechanisms and complete antigen formation in allergic contact dermatitis

    Author : Stefan Ahlfors; Lund Dermatologi och venereologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypersensitivity; adduct; immune response.; Allergy; hapten;

    Abstract : Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a common T cell mediated skin disease. Small reactive organic molecules called haptens induce ACD. Haptens are not recognized by themselves, but need to bond to endogenous proteins in the skin, and processed further into complete antigens. Antigen specific T cells then recognize the resulting antigen. READ MORE

  5. 5. Recurrent Pregnancy Loss. Aspects of Epidemiology, Immunology, Treatment and Obstetric Outcomes

    Author : Emma Råsmark; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Recurrent pregnancy loss; Epidemiology; Reproductive immunology; low-molecular weight heparin; Obstetric complications; Early pregnancy; Miscarriage;

    Abstract : Aims: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), defined as three consecutive miscarriages, is a multifaceted problem whose resolution needs a broad approach. In this thesis, epidemiology, immunology, treatment and obstetrical outcomes areexplored. READ MORE
