  1. 11. Growth factor pathways in human cancer : functional and therapeutic implications

    Author : Leonard Girnita; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : IGF-1R; growth factors; p53; fusion protein; tyrosine kinase inhibitors; ubiquitin;

    Abstract : The multi-step development of tumors involves numerous changes at genomic level such as oncogene activation, loss of function of tumor suppressor genes and translocations resulting in fusion genes that encodes for chimeric proteins with tumorigenic functions etc. However, in the selection leading to cancer in somatic tissues it is likely that the cancer cells make use of the normal extracellular signaling for proliferation and/or anti-apoptosis to create growth advantage over the normal cells. 2. 12. Targeting insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor in cancer

    Author : Ada Girnita; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : IGF1; IGF-1R; MDM2; p53; PPP; Tamoxifen; tyrosine kinase inhibitors; ubiquitin;

    Abstract : Cancer is a multi-step process where the accumulation of several genetic and epigenetic alterations drives the transformation of a normal cell to a malignant cell, skipping the normal control of defense, repair and apoptosis. During the selection process towards a malignant phenotype, the transforming cells make use of normal (physiological) extracellular signaling pathways to create growth advantage over normal cells. 3. 13. Molecular mechanisms of growth suppression by pharmacologically activated p53

    Author : Elisabeth Hedström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The tumor suppressor p53 is a transcription factor that is crucial for protecting cells from cancer development. The importance of p53 tumor suppression function is highlighted by the fact that the p53 pathway is inactivated in most, if not all cancers. READ MORE

  4. 14. Impact of autocrine factors on physiology and productivity in Trichoplusia ni serum-free cultures

    Author : Ulrika Eriksson; Lena Häggström; Per Berglund; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; Trichoplusia ni; High Five; insect cells; BEVS; serum-free medium; yeast extract; conditioned medium; autocrine regulation of proliferation; growth factors; cell cycle; metalloproteinase; specific productivity; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to increase the understanding of the mechanisms regulating cell proliferation and recombinant protein production in serum-free cultures of Trichoplusia ni (T. ni) insect cells.Conditioned medium (CM) was shown to contain both stimulatory and inhibitory factors (CM factors) influencing cell growth. 5. 15. Structural and Functional Studies of Gas6

    Author : Jonas Stenhoff; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; EDTA; calcium; multimer; monomer; platelets; Mer; Axl; vitamin K; Gas6; human circulation; soluble receptor; Tyro3; receptor tyrosine kinases; growth factor;

    Abstract : The vitamin K-dependent and ubiquitously expressed 82 kDa glycoprotein product of the growth-arrest-specific-gene 6, Gas6, shows 44% sequence identity to the anticoagulant protein, protein S. Both proteins share further the same domain organization. READ MORE
