  1. 1. Perturbation-based Control of Industrial Fed-batch Bioprocesses

    Author : Ola Johnsson; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; perturbation-based control; process control; fed-batch control; industrial bioprocesses;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is bioprocess control, more specifically control of industrial-scale microbial fed-batch bioprocesses. Its focus is therefore on methods which are easy to implement in an industrial setting, which gives certain limitations on sensors, actuators and control systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Iterative Road Grade Estimation for Heavy Duty Vehicle Control

    Author : Per Sahlholm; Karl Henrik Johansson; Jonas Sjöberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; road grade; estimation; heavy duty vehicle; Kalman filter; automatic control; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a new method for iterative road grade estimation based on sensors that are commonplace in modern heavy duty vehicles. Estimates from multiple passes of the same road segment are merged together to form a road grade map, that is improved each time the vehicle revisits an already traveled route. READ MORE

  3. 3. Probing Control of Glucose Feeding in Escherichia coli Cultivations

    Author : Mats Åkesson; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automatiska system; control engineering; robotics; Automation; dissolved oxygen; acetate; glucose feeding; robotteknik; Escherichia coli; Process control; fed-batch cultivation; reglerteknik; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Production of many proteins can today be made using genetically modified organisms. One of the most frequently used host organisms is the bacterium Escherichia coli. A difficulty encountered in cultivations of E. coli is the accumulation of the metabolic by-product acetate which inhibits cell growth and production of a desired protein. READ MORE

  4. 4. Structure-Exploiting Numerical Algorithms for Optimal Control

    Author : Isak Nielsen; Daniel Axehill; Anders Hansson; Eric Kerrigan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical Optimal Control; Model Predictive Control; Riccati Recursion; Parallel Algorithms; Low-Rank Modifications; Parametric Programming; Optimization; Explicit MPC; Moving Horizon Estimation; Partial Condensing;

    Abstract : Numerical algorithms for efficiently solving optimal control problems are important for commonly used advanced control strategies, such as model predictive control (MPC), but can also be useful for advanced estimation techniques, such as moving horizon estimation (MHE). In MPC, the control input is computed by solving a constrained finite-time optimal control (CFTOC) problem on-line, and in MHE the estimated states are obtained by solving an optimization problem that often can be formulated as a CFTOC problem. 5. 5. Distributed Road Grade Estimation for Heavy Duty Vehicles

    Author : Per Sahlholm; Karl Henrik Johansson; Emilio Frazzoli; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automotive; estimation; distributed systems; automatic control; heavy duty vehicles; road grade; road maps; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : An increasing need for goods and passenger transportation drives continued worldwide growth in traffic. As traffic increases environmental concerns, traffic safety, and cost efficiency become ever more important. Advancements in microelectronics open the possibility to address these issues through new advanced driver assistance systems. READ MORE
