21. Extremum-Seeking Control of Industrial-Scale Fermentation Processes
Abstract : The work presented here is based on two papers, both pertaining to perturbation-based control strategies in industrial fed-batch fermentation processes. The first paper describes a new control strategy for avoiding overflow metabolism in the exponential growth phase of a fermentation, based on analysis of the frequency spectrum of the dissolved oxygen measurement following a periodic perturbation in the feed rate. 22. On Structure Exploiting Numerical Algorithms for Model Predictive Control
Abstract : One of the most common advanced control strategies used in industry today is Model Predictive Control (MPC), and some reasons for its success are that it can handle multivariable systems and constraints on states and control inputs in a structured way. At each time-step in the MPC control loop the control input is computed by solving a constrained finite-time optimal control (CFTOC) problem on-line. READ MORE

23. Optimisation and control of boundary layer flows
Abstract : Both optimal disturbances and optimal control are studied by means of numerical simulations for the case of the flat-plate boundary-layer flow. The optimisation method is the Lagrange multiplier technique where the objective function is the kinetic energy of the flow perturbations and the constraints involve the linearised Navier–Stokes equations. 24. Unseen job creators and firm growth barriers : the role of capital constraints and seniority rules
Abstract : The topic of this thesis is to provide a deeper understanding of how the institutional framework affects firms’ hiring decisions. The first article focuses on a group of firms, called sleeping gazelles, that do not grow despite having high profits. READ MORE

25. Androgen controlled regulatory systems in prostate cancer : potential new therapeutic targets and prognostic markers
Abstract : BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is by far the most common cancer among Swedish men. Some patients have an aggressive lethal disease, but the majority of affected men have long expected survival. Unfortunately, the diagnostic tools available are insufficient in predicting disease aggressiveness. Novel prognostic markers are therefore urgently needed. READ MORE
