  1. 1. Prediction Models and Pharmacogenomics in Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency

    Author : Edna J L Barbosa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; growth hormone deficiency; hypopituitarism; growth hormone replacement therapy; prediction models; candidate gene approach; polymorphisms; body composition; growth hormone receptor; lipid metabolism; extracellular water; pharmacogenomics;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to study clinical and genetic factors that influence response to growth hormone replacement therapy (GHRT) in GH deficient (GHD) adults. The patients were part of a cohort of adults with hypopituitarism and severe GHD who were studied before and after 12 months of GHRT. READ MORE

  2. 2. Long-term effects of growth hormone replacement in hypopituitary adults on body composition, bone mass and cardiovascular risk factors

    Author : Mariam Elbornsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; growth hormone; growth hormone deficiency; growth hormone replacement; bone mineral density; body composition; muscle strength; elderly; cardiovascular risk factors; pituitary irradiation;

    Abstract : Growth hormone (GH) deficient (GHD) adults have decreased bone mass and muscle strength, impaired body composition, disturbed serum lipid pattern and increased morbidity and mortality in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. GH replacement normalizes most of these aberrations within the first year of treatment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Metabolic responsiveness to growth hormone in children

    Author : Ralph Decker; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Individualized treatment; Growth hormone; Hormonal responsiveness; Metabolic outcome; Prediction model; Body composition; Insulin sensitivity; Leptin; Proteomics SELDI; Apolipoproteins; Thresholds of growth hormone effects; Protein patterns;

    Abstract : Metabolic effects of growth hormone (GH) therapy in short children have not been clearly established owing to the previous lack of controlled trials studying the metabolic outcome in response to different GH doses despite the known effects of GH on insulin sensitivity, lipid profile, and body composition. It has previously been shown that individualized GH doses during catch-up growth significantly reduce the proportion of unexpectedly good and poor responders around a predefined individual growth target in short prepubertal children. 4. 4. Quality of Life in Adult Patients with Growth Hormone Deficiency : Bridging the gap between clinical evaluation and health economic assessment

    Author : Maria Kołtowska-Häggström; Kesrtin (Chris) Bingefors; Dag Isacson; Paul Kind; Jens Sandahl Christiansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Health policy and health economics; growth hormone deficiency in adults; quality of life; cost-utility analysis; growth hormone replacement; normative data; QoL-AGHDA; Hälsopolitik och hälsoekonomi;

    Abstract : The goals of this thesis are to evaluate quality of life (QoL) in adult patients with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) in relation to population normative data, to construct a preference-weighted index (utility) from a disease-specific QoL measure and to assess it in a clinical context.The study included samples from the general population and patients with GHD from four European populations: England & Wales, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. 5. 5. Long-term effects of growth hormone replacement therapy in growth hormone deficient adults

    Author : Galina Götherström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : growth hormone; body composition; bone mass; bone density; muscle strength; lipids; glucose metabolism; adult onset GHD; childhood onset GHD; gender;

    Abstract : Deficiency of growth hormone (GHD) in adults results in abnormal body composition, reduced bone mass and muscle strength, deteriorated cardiovascular risk factors. Short-term GH replacement reverses many of the symptoms associated with adult GHD. READ MORE
