  1. 1. Identification of novel growth hormone-regulated factors

    Author : Björn Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Growth hormone; idiopathic short stature; growth hormone deficient; prepubertal; children; genomic; proteomic;

    Abstract : The studies described in this thesis aimed to identify novel factors involved in the regulation of longitudinal growth and bone mineralization in response to growth hormone (GH) treatment. This was done by performing a single factor study (Paper I) where it was found that growth response was negatively correlated with adiponectin levels during the first year of GH treatment in short prepubertal children. 2. 2. Prediction Models and Pharmacogenomics in Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency

    Author : Edna J L Barbosa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; growth hormone deficiency; hypopituitarism; growth hormone replacement therapy; prediction models; candidate gene approach; polymorphisms; body composition; growth hormone receptor; lipid metabolism; extracellular water; pharmacogenomics;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to study clinical and genetic factors that influence response to growth hormone replacement therapy (GHRT) in GH deficient (GHD) adults. The patients were part of a cohort of adults with hypopituitarism and severe GHD who were studied before and after 12 months of GHRT. READ MORE

  3. 3. Long-term effects of growth hormone replacement therapy in growth hormone deficient adults

    Author : Galina Götherström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : growth hormone; body composition; bone mass; bone density; muscle strength; lipids; glucose metabolism; adult onset GHD; childhood onset GHD; gender;

    Abstract : Deficiency of growth hormone (GHD) in adults results in abnormal body composition, reduced bone mass and muscle strength, deteriorated cardiovascular risk factors. Short-term GH replacement reverses many of the symptoms associated with adult GHD. READ MORE

  4. 4. Long-term effects of growth hormone replacement in hypopituitary adults on body composition, bone mass and cardiovascular risk factors

    Author : Mariam Elbornsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; growth hormone; growth hormone deficiency; growth hormone replacement; bone mineral density; body composition; muscle strength; elderly; cardiovascular risk factors; pituitary irradiation;

    Abstract : Growth hormone (GH) deficient (GHD) adults have decreased bone mass and muscle strength, impaired body composition, disturbed serum lipid pattern and increased morbidity and mortality in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. GH replacement normalizes most of these aberrations within the first year of treatment. READ MORE

  5. 5. Growth Hormone and Gender. Studies in Healthy Adults and in Patients with Growth Hormone Disorders

    Author : Britt Edén Engström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Growth hormone; gender; ambulation; oral contraceptives; epinephrine; GH treatment; age; E2-implant; IGF-I; octreotide; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : The use of a new, more sensitive immunoassay for growth hormone (GH) revealed that the serum levels in men were lower than expected in sera drawn ambulatory in the morning after an overnight fast and that the gender difference was more than 10 times greater than reported. These observations led to a more thorough study on the impact of gender and sex steroids on the levels of GH and other hormones in ambulatory morning samples and over a 24-hour period. READ MORE
