  2. 17. Insulin-like Growth Factor System: functional role and regulation in carcinomas

    Author : Ann Rosendahl; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; PTEN; Transforming Growth Factor-beta; Insulin-like Growth Factor; Renal Cell Carcinoma; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system demonstrates numerous actions during neoplastic growth and is therefore an interesting target with potential clinical implications. While numerous studies have established important roles of the IGF system in regulating cellular growth and survival of several tumor forms, very limited reports exist regarding its role in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). 3. 18. Studies of Mesenchymal Progenitor Cells and Tumour Growth, Integrins and Matrix Metalloproteinases

    Author : Lars Bryngelsson Ohlsson; Immunologi; []

    Abstract : In this thesis we characterize the effect of mesenchymal progenitor cells (MPCs) on tumour growth, and show that MPCs can have inhibitory effects on tumour development. We developed a method to subcutaneously transplant tumour cells, cultured in vitro in a pre-formed gelatin matrix, that made it possible to study the early phases of tumour development. READ MORE

  4. 19. Modulation of the calcium-force relationship in smooth muscle by polyamines and metabolic inhibition

    Author : Karl Swärd; Cellulär biomekanik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metabolic inhibition; polyamines; excitation-contraction coupling; smooth muscle; intracellular calcium; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The relationship between intracellular free calcium ([Ca2+]i) and force in smooth muscle was investigated in receptor-coupled permeabilized preparations and by fluorimetry of the calcium indicator Fura 2 in intact smooth muscle. The time integral of spontaneous [Ca2+]i transients in the intact rat portal vein was decreased by cyanide and, during tonic contraction, cyanide reduced force without changing [Ca2+]i implying metabolic sensitivity of both membrane excitation and [Ca2+]i - activation of the contractile proteins. 5. 20. Fibroblast growth factor-induced signal transduction

    Author : Peter Klint; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) evoke cellular responses by binding to FGF receptors (FGFRs). FGFRs are cell surface expressed membrane-spanning receptors with intrinsic stimulatable tyrosine kinase activity. This thesis describes the cell proliferation or differentiation. READ MORE
