  1. 1. Growth rate control of periplasmic product retention in Escherichia coli

    Author : Emma Bäcklund; Gen Larsson; Stefan Schmidt; Amelie Eriksson Karlström; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Escherichia coli; fed-batch; outer membrane proteins; recombinant proteins; specific growth rate; periplasmic retention; phosphotransferase system; high cell density cultivation; acetate formation; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The recombinant product is secreted to the periplasm in many processes where E. coli is used as host. One drawback with secretion is the undesired leakage of the periplasmic products to the medium. The aim of this work was to find strategies to influence the periplasmic retention of recombinant products. READ MORE

  2. 2. Strain-assisted corrosion cracking and growth rate inhibitors

    Author : Andrey P Jivkov; Mekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vacuum technology; vibration and acoustic engineering; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; materialteknik; Mechanical engineering; Material technology; Materiallära; Stress intensity factor; Inhomogeneous materials; Crack evolution; Stress corrosion cracking; Moving boundary; hydraulics;

    Abstract : A model for evolution of cracks as a result of strain-assisted corrosion is presented. The considered cracks possess a realistic geometry, where the tip region is an integral part of the crack surface instead of being a singular point. This geometry is either implicitly defined or is a consequence of crack nucleation from surface irregularities. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Effect of Various Dopants on Diamond Growth : A Combined Experimental & Theoretical Approach

    Author : Yiming Zou; Karin Larsson; Mats Boman; Petter Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diamond; Growth rate; HFCVD; Doping; Activation energy; Reaction order;

    Abstract : Diamond is a unique material with many exceptional properties. It has therefore been proven to be an important material for many applications. Moreover, the introduction of dopant species into the gas phase during the CVD growth process has been shown to strongly influence not only the properties and morphology of diamond, but also the growth rate. 4. 4. A Parametric Approach to Yeast Growth Curve Estimation and Standardization

    Author : Ilona Pylvänäinen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bioscreen; Chapman-Richards model; growth curve; growth rate; lag time; optical density OD ; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; standardized curve; stationary phase OD increment; summary curve; optical density OD ;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of yeast growth. It builds upon a dataset consisting of growth curves of 576 Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutants in eight different environments. The data will be a part of a publicly available phenotypic library, PROPHECY, containing growth curves and characteristics of viable S. READ MORE

  5. 5. Theory of economic development : nonlinearity, instability and non-equilibrium

    Author : Wei-Bin Zhang; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economic growth and development; instability; structural change; bifurcation; non-equilibrium; centralization and decentralization; business cycle; the standard neoclassical growth model; growth rate; interest rate; inflation rate; choice of techniques; endogenous technological change;

    Abstract : The objective of this study is to propose an economic development theory within the framework of input-output systems and neoclassical economics. This study consists of nine chapters which are arranged in the following manner:In Chapter I, we discuss development problems, define some essential concepts, and provide a general historical sketch of economic growth theory.
