21. High growth rate epitaxy of SiC: growth processes and structural quality
Abstract : Silicon carbide (SiC) is a promising wide-bandgap semiconductor for applications such as high-power devices, high-voltage switches, high-temperature electronics and microwave components. The prospect of using this material is a large driving force for improving the material growth which is still quite immature in comparison with established semiconductor materials (e. READ MORE

22. Experimental and Theoretical Study of Rack Storage Fires
Abstract : A theoretical and experimental study of rack storage fires and responsiveness of sprinklers is presented. Free-burn tests with non-combustible and combustible material were carried out in reduced scale with verification in large scale. READ MORE

23. Process modeling of semibatch reaction crystallization
Abstract : This thesis aims at increasing the fundamental understanding of reaction crystallization by modeling, simulations and parameter estimation. Benzoic acid is used as the model compound. READ MORE

24. Population viability analysis for plants : practical recommendations and applications
Abstract : Population viability analysis (PVA) is commonly used in conservation biology to predict population viability in terms of population growth rate and risk of extinction. However, large data requirements limit the use of PVA for many rare and threatened species. READ MORE

25. Pollinators, Enemies, Drought, and the Evolution of Reproductive Traits in Primula farinosa
Abstract : In this thesis, I combined comparative and experimental approaches to examine selection on reproductive traits and population differentiation in the insect-pollinated, self-incompatible, perennial herb Primula farinosa. More specifically, I (1) determined whether the effects of floral display and interactions with pollinators and seed predators, and plant reproductive success were frequency-dependent and affected by surrounding vegetation context, (2) examined the consequences of intermittent drought years on population dynamics using numerical simulations based on demographic data collected over seven years, (3) analyzed among-population differentiation in flowering phenology and reproductive allocation, and its relationship to soil-depth at the site of origin.
