  1. 16. Prognostic factors in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, with emphasis on 11q13 rearrangements and cyclin D1 overexpression

    Author : Jan Åkervall; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; audiologi; Otorinolaryngologi; auditive system and speech; audiology; head and neck; squamous cell carcinoma; genetics; prognosis; CCND1; chromosomes; cyclin D1; chemotherapy; Otorhinolaryngology; gene expression; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Abstract : At present, clinical outcome or response to therapy can not be fully predicted in individual cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN). The overall aim of the present studies was to investigate potential prognostic factors, more closely related to the malignant progression of a tumor than the established markers, such as the TNM-classification system. 2. 17. Assessment of increased upper airway resistance in snorers. Methodological and diagnostic considerations

    Author : Sören Berg; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arousals.; pharyngeal pressure; intrathoracic pressure; hypopnea; respiratory ventilation; oxygenation; Non apneic snorers; upper airway obstruction; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Abstract : Sleep-related partial upper airway obstruction may cause increased morbidity and mortality, but diagnosis and treatment of patients is varying and inconsistent. The present studies were aimed to evaluate presently applied indirect methods for assessing respiratory ventilation and to investigate the value and accuracy in estimating upper airway resistance during sleep by measuring intrathoracic pressure variation with a microchip catheter in the esophagus. 4. 19. Middle Ear Pressure; A New Method for Continuous Direct Measurements

    Author : Bo Tideholm; allergi och livskvalitet Laryngoesofagologi; []

    Abstract : Disturbances in the pressure homeostasis of the middle ear (ME) system cause a pressure gradient across the tympanic membrane lessen the effectiveness of sound transmission and may be associated to development of chronic ME disease. An equipment for continuous direct pressure measurements was developed and was found to be accurate, base-line stabile and portable. READ MORE

  5. 20. Ventilation of the Paranasal Sinuses. A study using the 133-Xenon Washout Technique

    Author : Bo Paulsson; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; auditive system and speech; single photon emission computed tomography; paranasal sinuses; ventilation; 133-xenon; chronic sinusitis; nose-sinus model; endoscopic sinus surgery; oxymetazoline; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen; audiology;

    Abstract : A noninvasive 133-xenon washout technique was used to evaluate the ventilation of the paranasal sinuses in healthy subjects and in patients with sinus disease. A mixture of air and 133-xenon is insufflated into the nasal cavities and passage into the sinuses is facilitated by a pressure increase created by letting the subjects inflate a balloon. READ MORE
