  2. 17. Habitat selection, nest predation and conservation biology in a Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) population

Author : Tomas Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []

Abstract : This thesis focuses on a black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) population, consisting of 35-40 pairs, that breeds on a grazed shore meadow on SE Gotland, Sweden. The small size of the population makes it more prone to extinction due to chance events, than a larger population. The godwits showed microhabitat preferences when choosing nest sites. READ MORE

Abstract : The last century, humans have been altering almost all natural environments at an accelerating rate, including the Baltic Sea that has highly eutrophicated areas and many coastal industries such as Pulp-mills. For animals living in a habitat that changes there are basically two alternatives, either to cope with the change or become locally extinct. READ MORE

  5. 20. Sources of variability in heterospecific social information use for breeding habitat selection : Role of genetics and personality in collared flycatchers

Abstract : All their life, individuals have to make decisions that may strongly affect their fitness. To optimize their decisions, they can use personally acquired information but also information obtained from observing other individuals (“social information”). READ MORE
