  1. 1. Nitrates and Left Ventricular Dysfunction

    University dissertation from Erik Tingberg Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund Cardiology, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, Sweden

    Author : Erik Tingberg; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lipid peroxidation; malondialdehyde; peptide; brain natriuretic peptide; left ventricular dysfunction; nitrates; acute myocardial infarction; heart failure; atrial natriuretic; diuretics; echocardiography; haemodynamic measurements; neurohumoral activation; diastolic dysfunction; Cardiovascular system; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Kardiovaskulära systemet; oxidative stress; isoprostanes;

    Abstract : Use of beta-blockers and inhibitors of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) is established practice in the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF). Clinical studies also suggest beneficial long-term effects of nitrates in CHF. READ MORE

  2. 2. Haemodynamic and ventilatory effects of laparoscopic surgery

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Center for Surgical Sciences CFSS

    Author : Lena Andersson; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Laparoscopy; C02 pneumoperitoneum; indicator- dilution technique; central haemodynamics; cardiac output; central blood volume; venous occlusion plethysmography; catecholamines; multiple inert gas technique; shunt; abdominal wall lift; intrathoracic pressure; ventilation-perfusion matching; atelectasis; spiral computed tomography.;

    Abstract : Background: It has been shown repeatedly that the establishment of pneumoperitoneum (PP) is associated with increased cardiac filling pressures, as well as increased blood pressure and systemic vascular resistance. Patients without heart or lung disease can compensate for these effects of PP, but cardiopulmonary compromised patients may develop cardiac failure during PP. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ultrasonic Methods for 2D Arterial Wall Movement Measurements

    University dissertation from Magnus Cinthio, Department of Electrical Measurements, LTH, Box 118, 221 00 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Magnus Cinthio; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2004]

    Abstract : Cardiovascular diseases constitute the major cause of morbidity and mortality in the Western World. To increase our knowledge of cardiovascular diseases, it is important to find methods, preferably non-invasive ones, to study very early manifestations of vascular disease. READ MORE

  4. 4. Noninvasive haemodynamic evaluation of aortic valve prostheses : Doppler echocardiographic studies at rest and during exercise

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Surgical Science

    Author : Maria J. Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [1998]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heart valve prosthesis; aortic valve replacement; Doppler echocardiography; exercise; haemodynamics; valve resistance;

    Abstract : The present series of investigations was designed to supply information on in vivo pressureflow relationships and to analyse the incidence of regurgitation in different heart valve prostheses in the aortic position. Patients and methods: The study population comprised 185 patients with mechanical Björk-Shiley Monostrut prostheses, 54 patients with Biocor stented porcine bioprostheses, 50 patients with extended Biocor stentless bioprostheses and 59 patients with cryopreserved aortic homografts. 5. 5. Surgically corrected univentricular hearts. Anatomical, haemodynamic and functional status at a long-term follow-up

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Eva Strömvall-Larsson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cavopulmonary connections; univentricular hearts; long-term follow-up; pulmonary; arteriovenous malformations; lung volumes; cardiac output; pulmonary gas exchange and maximal; exercise studies;

    Abstract : The Fontan operation and its modifications are applied to a large spectrum of congenital heart defectswith univentricular physiology. The Fontan circulation is characterised by a reduced, non-pulsatilepulmonary blood flow and the elevated central venous pressure is the main driving force for thepulmonary blood flow. READ MORE
