    Abstract : Obesity is a major public health problem. Bariatric surgery is currently the only available treatment that offers sufficient weight-loss and metabolic benefits over time. Although bariatric surgery is considered safe now, serious complications still occur. READ MORE

  3. 13. VENOUS THROMBOEMBOLISM IN SOUTHERN SWEDEN EPIDEMIOLOGY AND RISK FACTORS

    Author : Nazim Isma; Vaskulära sjukdomar - kliniska studier; []

    Abstract : Despite the fact that venous thromboembolism (VTE) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality there is still insufficient information on VTE risk factors and patient characteristics in the general population. Previously published incidences of VTE (deep venous thrombosis [DVT] and pulmonary embolism [PE]) vary from 71 to 192 per 100,000 individuals per year. READ MORE

  5. 15. Pulse oximetry : methodological considerations : experimental, in vitro and human investigations

    Author : Magnus Vegfors; Ola Stenqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Pulse oximeters monitor non-invasively the haemoglobin oxygen saturation. Light of two specific wavelengths, red and infrared light, is shined through a tissue, usually the finger, and the intensity of the light transmitted is measured. Oxyhaemoglobin absorbs the light differently when compared to reduced haemoglobin. READ MORE
