  1. 1. Studies on the halothane-diethyl-ether azeotrope

    Author : Sigga Kalman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Requirements for a safe standard for anaesthesia under primitiveconditions differ from those under peaceful circumstances. It is important not to blunt the reflexes that guard vital functions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Distribution of halothane, some organic solvents, and their metabolites in rodents : uptake in the fetus and amniotic fluid, and in the respiratory tract

    Author : Hanan Ghantous; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

  3. 3. In vitro contracture testing for the diagnosis of malignant hyperthermia susceptibility

    Author : Gunilla Islander; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; specificity; IVCT; Malignant hyperthermia susceptibility; skeletal muscle; inheritance pattern; sensitivity; reproducibility; intensivvård;

    Abstract : Malignant hyperthermia (MH) susceptibility is a rare inherited muscular disorder, which may cause a lethal increase in metabolism during anaesthesia with certain commonly used anaesthetic. Susceptible individuals are without any signs or symptoms. It is important to identify individuals at risk, since the MH reaction is preventable. READ MORE

  4. 4. Acute toluene effects on neurotransmission in the central nervous system

    Author : Karl Stengård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : acetylcholine; aspartate; cerebellum; dopamine; GABA; globus pallidus; glutamate; microdialysis; rat; striatum; toluene; ;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to develop a method to study the effects of toluene in the central nervous system of the rat. Microdialysis on awake rats was used to study toluene's effects on the transmission of dopamine, acetylcholine, glutamate and aspartate in the striatum, and on GABA in the striatum, the cerebellum and the globus pallidus. 5. 5. Arterial pulse wave analysis. With special reference to vasoactive and anaesthetic drugs and to heart lung interactions

    Author : Staffan Söderström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : pulse; blood pressure physiology; hypertension; aged; vasodilation; ventricular function; left; nitroglycerin; coronary disease; artificial respiration; fentanyl.;

    Abstract : In the young systolic arterial pressures (SAP) are higher in the radial artery than in the proximal aorta. Due to increased large artery stiffness and early pulse wave reflection aortic SAP increases more with age than peripheral SAP. READ MORE
