  1. 1. Hand-arm vibration syndrome; Consequences for hand function and quality of life

    Author : Ragnhild Cederlund; Hållbar vardag och hälsa i ett livsperspektiv; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ortopedi; traumatologi; traumatology; Kirurgi; Surgery; orthopaedics; questionnaires; tests; assessments; outcomes; ill-health; well-being; activities of daily living ADL ; quality of life; hand function; hand symptoms; Vibration exposure; Hand-arm vibration syndrome HAVS ;

    Abstract : Workers exposed to hand-held vibrating machines may risk developing a hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), a condition which can cause chronic impairment and disability. The aims of this thesis were 1) to obtain deeper insight and further knowledge of HAVS and the consequences for hand function, and aspects of quality of life (QoL); 2) to investigate the usefulness of clinical assessments in diagnosing HAVS; 3) to evaluate a treatment method for patients with severe cold intolerance. 2. 2. Ultra precision metrology : the key for mask lithography and manufacturing of high definition displays

    Author : Peter Ekberg; Lars Mattsson; Torgny Carlsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ultra precision metrology; LCD-display; OLED-display; nm-resolution; large area; random phase measurement; acousto-optic deflection; scanning; 2D measurement; mask; CCD; CMOS; image processing; edge detection; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; Manufacturing engineering; Produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Metrology is the science of measurement. It is also a prerequisite for maintaining a high quality in all manufacturing processes. In this thesis we will present the demands and solutions for ultra-precision metrology in the manufacturing of lithography masks for the TV-display industry. READ MORE

    Abstract : The aim of the present dissertation was to develop a method for studying children's tine-motor development. The children were to trace a dotted line with a pencil. READ MORE

  4. 4. To grip and not to slip : sensorimotor mechanisms in reactive control of grasp stability

    Author : Charlotte Häger Ross; Roland S. Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human; hand; precision grip; grasp force; friction; cutaneous mechanoreceptors; sensorimotor integration; motor control;

    Abstract : The reactive control of fingertip forces maintaining grasp stability was examined in man during a prehensile task. Blindfolded subjects used the precision grip between the tips of index finger and thumb to restrain an object that was subjected to unpredictable load forces. These were delivered tangential to the parallel grip surfaces of the object. READ MORE

  5. 5. Vibration exposure of the glabrous skin of the human hand

    Author : Ronnie Lundström; Ludwik Liszka; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vibration; hand; skin; mechanical impedance; mechanoreceptors; tactile perception; high-frequency;

    Abstract : An occupational exposure to hand-arm vibration can cause a complex of neurological, vascular and musculo-skeletal disturbances, known as the 'vibration syndrome'. However, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms are not at all clear. READ MORE
