  1. 1. Mechanical Pulp Based Nano-ligno-cellulose : Production, Characterisation and their Effect on Paper Properties

    Author : Sinke Henshaw Osong; Per Engstrand; Sven Norgren; Kristin Syverud; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mechanical pulp; thermo-mechanical pulp; chemi-thermomechanical pulp; fractionation; fines; homogenisation; nanocellulose; nano-ligno-cellulose NLC ; handsheets; strength properties; crill;

    Abstract : Almost all research on biorefinery concepts are based on chemical pulping processes and ways of utilising lignin, hemicelluloses and extractives as well as a part of the remaining cellulose for production of nano materials in order to create more valuable products than today. Within the Forest as a Resource (FORE) research program at FSCN we are utilising the whole chain of unit processes from forestry to final products as paper and board, where the pulping process research focus on high yield process as TMP and CTMP. 2. 2. Chemical Modification of Cellulose Fibres and Fibrils for Design of New Materials

    Author : Verónica López Durán; Lars Wågberg; Per A. Larsson; Akira Isogai; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; borohydride reduction; cellulose-based materials; chemical modification; chlorite oxidation; fibres; fibrils; periodate oxidation; TEMPO oxidation; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Due to the growing interest in biobased materials in today’s society, where the need for a cyclic economy is obvious, there has been a huge increase in the  interest for using cellulose due to its excellent mechanical and chemical properties. However, the properties of cellulose have to be modified and improved in order to satisfy advanced material applications where the cellulose properties can be tuned to fit the properties of other components in composite mixtures. Abstract : Paper packaging is commonly found in the form of paper and cardboard boxes, but recently paper packing is being used in food packaging, trays, beverage packaging and even paper straws, among others. Paper strength additives have been developed to increase the efficiency of the joint strength and the joint areas and potentially maintain bulk in paper products. READ MORE

  4. 4. Determination of Weibull Parameters by Single Fibre Fragmentation for use in Modelling of Paper Tensile Properties

    Author : Carl-Henrik Ljungqvist; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The thesis presents a method for characterization of pulp fibre tensile strength. Single Fibre Fragmentation (SFF) and Weibull statistics were used. Methods for specimen preparation, sampling and analysis of fragmentation data from digital images were developed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Some aspects on strength properties in paper composed of different pulps

    Author : Hanna Karlsson; Luciano Beghello; Lars Nilsson; Lennart Stolpe; Øyvind Gregersen; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; paper strength; reinforcement; multilayer; stratified; handsheet former; abaca; southern pine; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : For papermakers, an understanding of the development of strength properties in the paper is of uttermost importance. Strong papers are desirable both in the traditional paper industry as well as in new fields of application, such as fibre-based packaging and light-weight building material. READ MORE
