6. Rock Mechanical Effects of Cement Grouting in Hard Rock
Abstract : A pre-grouted rock mass is subjected to stress re-distribution as the tunnel excavation progresses. The strength and deformation characteristics of grouted rock joints are therefore of interest in any effort to predict the rock mechanical behavior as well as the failure of sealing in a grouted rock mass. 8. Thermo-Mechanical Behaviour of Refrigerated Caverns in Hard Rock
Abstract : For almost 4 decades, underground caverns in hard rock have been used to store liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) and refrigerated products, such as foods and chemicals. The design of such facilities has, however, been founded on relatively limited knowledge of the reaction of rock masses to cooling. READ MORE

9. Experimental investigation of steel cables for rock reinforcement in hard rock
Abstract : This thesis describes a detailed experimental investigation of the mechanical behaviour of fully grouted steel cables used for rock reinforcement in hard rock. An attempt is also made to explain the possible modes of deformation and cable failure, based on observations from the experiments. READ MORE

10. Rock Mechanical Consequences of Refrigeration. A Study Based on a Pilot Scale Rock Cavern
Abstract : The deformation of a rock mass due to temperature decrease below freezing is very complex, since many factors are involved; thermal strain, strain due to stress change, stress re-distribution, ice formation and the temperature dependency of rock mechanical and thermo-physical properties. The objective of this study was to achieve a better understanding of the rock mass response to thermo-mechanical loading when storing low temperature products in rock caverns excavated in hard crystalline rock masses.
